Not worth the money!

Had played here before, so tried it again. First shock was the greens fee($120)w/cart. Web site upon booking showed it at about $80, which is still high.
In fact a group was putting their bags back in their car when we got there for our tee time at 0950, citing the above $$. We should have done the same!
Right off the bat it was slow. Starters have no clue as they had put 2 two-comes in front of us, and both were as slow as could be. We were a 4-some, with 2 beginners and we were waiting on almost EVERY shot! Ridiculous. No course marshals, which for the money should have been all over the course.
Won't play there anytime soon, or at all. Better and more reasonable courses around to choose from.

Worth your time if you are in the area

Played on a Monday afternoon on a cloudy day with rain expected. Fun golf course, expansive views and interesting holes. Service was fantastic gentleman in pro shop was extremely helpfull and friendly. Course was pretty wet even before it rained I am not from the area so I have no idea what the weather was like the week prior. Greens were medium speed some good undulations and pretty soft if you hit the green it stopped. A couple of rough patches in some fairways and there was some significant bunker erosion. I will say they have the worst logo ever it appears they had a civil war themed logo prior (being this area was right in the middle of that conflict) which they appear to have changed perhaps due to outside pressure. Still with a name like musket ridge there is a lot of opportunity to update or tweak your logo and still steer clear of the PC police. In any case I typically buy a shirt from new courses I play and I just couldn't with the current logo. That is a minor criticism in the grand scheme of things. I think most everyone would enjoy this course and I would say it's a must play if you are in the Baltimore area. 4 stars and I look forward to playing again some day.

Rainy day

Played last Sunday. It rained for 14 out of 18 holes but we still had a great time. Course is in great shape. Round comes with range balls. Food from the restaurant was delicious. Not my favorite Frederick course but I will be back, hopefully on a nicer day.

Great Conditions

Fairways, rough, and bunkers are all in great shape. The greens are excellent: fast and rolling true. And the views in every direction are a nice bonus. Staff are friendly and their service is top-notch.

Course in Great Shape

First time at Musket Ridge in a while and I was not disappointed. Even though they had aerated the greens, they are filling in nicely and running fairly true...a couple minor detours due to aeration holes but not as much as I thought. The fairways were in beautiful condition for this time of year. Some of the tee boxes were chewed up, but that's really to be expected since a lot of golfers are working off the rust. The staff was exceptional and checked to make sure we were taken care of. Pace of play was under 4 hours, and it was a beautiful day. A beautiful course on a gorgeous day and quick round...it doesn't get any better than that!!

Big Improvement Since May 2020

Played in May after COVID restrictions were lifted and the course was spotty, bumpy greens & rough very patchy. Played yesterday and what an about face! Greens were running great, fairways & rough were in great shape. If I could have one recommendation - have some combo tees with white and blue. Whites are 5900 and Blues are 6400 so a combo of about 6200 would be great!

Turn-off clubhouse

Everything was going well on June 20th until we returned to the 19th hole. What we saw was very disrespectful and insensitive to all customers. The clubhouse had serval portraits of Confederate Generals on the wall. Golfing today is a universal sport with diversity. All races and ethnicities play golf. Why send that type message and feelings to your customers of color. There is no reason to put those symbols on the wall. As a result my group will never play this course again.

Worth the Drive....for the course and the views

This is one of Maryland's top golf courses... and worth the drive....Price/value is excellent when you take into account the quality of this course. You enter the course after driving though the humble and historic town of Myersville... wondering where the course is. A generous and large clubhouse greets you at the top of the hill with an easy area to drop your clubs off…. And you know you are in for a great time after viewing the course on the “way in” and pulling up to the clubhouse!

Scheduling, staff, greeting, those serving food and the cart service were outstanding. Friendly, professional and caring.

The course:

First there are three practice areas, the driving range, a large green and a chipping, putting and bunker area tucked in front of the clubhouse... Definitely get there early to warm up and take advantage of these areas... the chipping area also has a two tiered green which comes in handy as you get out to the course.

Water only comes into play on one or two holes. Every hole is different with wide landing zones in some cases landing zones that narrow down to 30 yards on other holes. Dog legs left and right and perhaps 3 holes that are “blind”. The course has incredible views of the surrounding mountains and valleys… breathtaking and serene would be the words I would use to describe the views.

Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Bunkers were one step below, but only on a few holes did they need a little work. The course has four tee boxes so you can adjust to your game. The par threes are shorter, unless you play from the tips. There are no houses on the course and each hole feels separate from the other, as you would expect in this rural area. The hilly area leads to some uphill and downhill lies as well as approach shots both to elevated greens and greens you have to hit a downhill approach.

As a 10-12 handicap I would rate the course of moderate difficulty, but requiring a very accurate tee shot on about half the holes. Out of bounds tends to be “in the woods” or in the fescue. About 1/3 of the greens are relatively flat, with the others split between tiered and undulated.

If you have the chance, plan on some “porch time” on the 19th hole overlooking the 9th and 18th hole… Beautiful elevated view of the course and a great way to unwind in this quiet gem of central Maryland.

Great Course, often overlooked

A lot of great courses in this area, and this is one of them, fun, always in the best conditions and some very challenging holes with some holes that are very good birdie opportunities if you don't get too greedy.

Challenging and Fun

Musket Ridge sits amongst some of the best Public course in Maryland and it holds own. While using fewer acres, MR has great views, a very challenging course that will engage all of your stills. The conditions are great and the staff is friendly in the sense they treat you like a member or a regular player.

Annual Trip

Musket Ridge is one of the best tracks in Western Maryland. The hole designs are very diverse...giving you a little bit of everything, including mounds, narrow and wide landing areas, and uphill/downhill shots. Tee boxes, fairways, and bunkers were all in excellent shape. They had just aerated the greens, so they were a bit bumpy, but they did adjust the greens fees to $55 (from $76) to offset the less-than-smooth greens. The staff is excellent--from the starter and cart loading area, to the Pro Shop. My only issue is some of the clientele--I make the hour drive once or twice a year and always have the same experience. The starter tells us to go to #1 tee box where another player is waiting without a cart, clubs, or his partner. He is miffed, but he needs to take that up with the starter, not us. Then, they push us the entire front nine, even when we run into the back of other players and have to wait. Mind you, we played in 3.5 hours (and we are a 12 and 8 handicap), but clearly it wasn't fast enough for them! The clientele I've experience at Musket Ridge are rude, inconsiderate of other players, and clearly don't understand golf course etiquette. There was no reason to push us, especially since we were ahead of the course time and they had no one behind them so they could have paced themselves. Honestly, I think it's because we were women--hate to say that, but that's been my overall experience. This is not the course's fault, but my impression is the clientele wants an "exclusive club." Sad...but makes me want to go elsewhere.

Perfect!

Can’t say enough about the conditions of this course. Every aspect; including tees, greens, fairways, and bunkers were in excellent condition. This course has a lot of elevation changes but landing areas were open and visible. This course is a hem!

What a piece of land!

From the moment my brother and I pulled in, we were very impressed. What a piece of land this track is on! Having played a majority of the Northern Virginia/Maryland public-private courses, we heard this was a must play! This place is a hidden gem and I would suggest this to any skill level golfer. It was well worth the hour drive! Best course conditions out of any public track in the DMV.

Best course in western Maryland

I play here frequently and it's easily the best course in the area. A fair but challenging layout with excellent conditions and terrific views. I have never heard anyone say a negative word about the course or the staff. When you're done playing, the beer selections are also top shelf.

A must play!!!

At just over an hour from Northern Va, it was worth the drive.

Plan your trip for after 2 on a weekend to take advantage of the $60.00 Twilight Rates and this course will not disappoint.

Grass Tee practice range with free balls and short game green.

This course is near perfect in condition and will provide not only ample challenge but great visual vistas as well.

Do yourself a favor, play this course.

Love The Layout, Needs TLC When The Season Starts

I've been able to play this course a few times since it opened, but today was the first time in several years. I love the layout with the elevation changes. This time of year with the fescue cut back you weren't as penalized for spraying a few drives, which I did... a lot. But during the season that would've really ballooned the score.

If you forced me to pick one course in the Frederick area, this would probably be my pick over Whiskey Creek, with a caveat... it will need some work before I'd recommend going full freight. There were several patches in the fairway, and the greens were very bumpy and inconsistent. The 11th green has 2 different grasses on it, and it was almost unputtable. In March, for twilight rate... ok. But if we had paid full price I'd have been very disappointed.

Overall, it's worth a go, but I'd wait and see what other reviewers say before booking a prime time early in the season to see how they handle the spring when it finally arrives and they can do some maintenance.

A good, wide open course

Musket Ridge has a good layout, not too many blind/tricky tee shots, and is in fairly good shape given the summer weather. Pace of play was rather slow, waited on every shot, but we still finished in 4:45, so not terrible. Greens were soft (surprisingly), but FWs slightly firm, which was great for rollout. Definitely judge elevation changes appropriately, especially off the 1st tee - it plays 20-30 yards shorter than expected.

Not what I expected.

I read a magazine that said this is " must play " course, so I did. The staff was very friendly the area is very scenic the egg and cheese sandwich I had was very good. The cart paths where good. The tee boxes where in good shape as well as the fairways the greens were slow and spongey. The slow group in front of us had a foot dragger in their group and just chewed up every green around the cup. I met 2 players and fortunately they've played here before. I am disappointed in the fact that this course does not have yardage books, if you are day tripping for golf courses they are very helpful and it is rather disturbing the a course that charges $ 100.00 on a Sunday doesn't have this product on the shelf as a complimentary item of for purchase. ( yes I know what GPS is ) How much could a book be to have made up. I understand the cost of things today but a realist value would $ 7.00 to sell in the pro shop I've seen them for 5 as well as $ 10.00 never playing a course before I think a lot of people would buy it for the round as well as a keep sake. I did not have a bad round 94 with a handicap of 13,, I'm ok with that.
I think this is a $ 65.00 course tops maybe a weekend rate of 72.00 The Course at Glenn Mills is a $ 100.00 course, Bulle Rock is a $ 100.00 course Wyncote is an $ 80.00 course They have yardage books too. On the back of the scorecard it has a course layout but you nee a magnifying glass to see it, it also states " # 6 Best place to play in the state of Maryland but I disagree. It's a likeable course but that's it.
