Fairway Hills course could be better
This course is in a good location Columbia/EC. But course I’d poorly maintained apparently.
Enjoyable Round
Course is in pretty good shape for not having rained since April.
Fairway Hills
Most if not all of the fairways have not grown in yet -- the rough looks better than the fairways. Tee boxes and greens are OK. Montgomery County public courses are in much better condition. Starter was very friendly. Carts have GPS and ball/club washers. Would not go back if no improvement in the fairways.
Fairway
Staff are fantastic and friendly and kept to play moving on a very busy day.
Way too many quirks to really be enjoying.
The putting green was lightning fast and the rest of the greens were fairly slow.
Way too many quirky holes to really be enjoying. Course wasn’t sure if it was an executive course or a full length course. The par 3’s were nice. Par 5’a were a joke. First 2 should be played 5 iron, Wedge, Wedge. Re-layout and those holes and make them par 4s. Still way too many quirks. I won’t play here again
Early season conditions
Check in process in golf shop was non plus; the check in person barely acknowledged my presence and tee off reservation. Starter was friendly and pleasant. No one mentioned that greens had been aerated and were still very bumpy nor was there any cost adjustment for aeration. Some tee boxes had not been recently mower and were somewhat scruffy. Many bunkers had mud and most needed replenishment of sand to make them truly playable. Fairway turf was not yet in growth phase and needed to fill in more to improve playing conditions. Some cart paths were new and under construction to reroute cart traffic. Greens were recently aerated and bumpy with variable sand fillin of aeration holes. Hope that play later in the season offers improved conditions.
Brown & Sandy
Fairways and tee boxes were not in yet. Greens were punched and sanded (heavily) so my putting was more worse than usual.
S’okay but weekends are slow, slow play
Course has its challenges: tight, short, need shot making. But, man, the pace of play was terribly slow. I know, it’s Columbia on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. So, it’s going to be crowded. But, maybe take fewer tee time reservations and get a ranger out there, pushing people along?
Conditions
The fairways were bare in so many places. Whomever aerated the greens did a terrible job and there were grooves from the machine all over the greens. The course was not worth $30 in that condition yet alone $58
