needs work
Course needs to work on tees and greens. Rough is obnoxious how thick it is.
Super Hot Muggy Day
Have not played a round in this type of hot humid heat in quite awhile. It was 96 degrees and sunny, w/ no breeze. Wilted by the 15th hole, drank lots of water, Gatorade and a 6 pack of beer and never went to the restroom until 9pm that evening. ( played from 10:30am to 3pm) Course is tight and has some difficult holes that has you leaving your fairway woods in the bag. There are a few greens that are in bad shape and it appears that the only way to ever get these Greens looking good is to start-over and recontour the greens. All the sand traps have not been taken care of , other than spraying weed-killer , so you know its a sand-trap and not some patchy fairway grass. ( did not have to hit out of one today) I play here at least once a year because it's my old stomping ground when it was then a 9 hole course known as " Golden Triangle" back in high school with only 5 of those original holes still having some resemblances to that time-period. I would never take new friends or clients here because of the difficult layout, the spotting greens, lots of Canadian Geese poop on a few of the fairways and the lack of sand trap care. Otherwise, its a challenge with a guarantee lose of a few golf balls, but the staff on the course ,in the club house and bar/ grill area were all great. This course has a few fun holes, a few easy ones and a few " hair raisers" to give you a fair mix. Hit it in the woods and you are likely not to recover unless its between the 14th and 15th hole.
Another One bites the dust
About 10 years ago I used to play this course every Wednesday when they had a Wednesday promo going on. I then moved out of town for roughly 10 years and was very disappointed going back to play at Walden again. The tea boxes and fairways look like your neighbor's yard that you always complain about, the greens are patchy, and it doesn't seem like anybody respects the course or has any courtesy whatsoever. This course has a nice layout but unfortunately I think a pack of goats could keep it up better than it is right now. To give an example I literally lost three balls in the fairway!!! Hope they get it back to its Old Glory as this was one of my favorite courses to play as it's very challenging and as I said before has a very nice layout.
Below Par
I arrived st 8am for 9am tee time. There was no greeter or starter .Starter starts at 10am.
There is no driving range.
As golfers arrived, they basically scheduled themselves, so a 4some, followed by three 2somes, followed by me a single caused a 4 hour bottleneck. No one made groups pair up, awful.
The clubhouse was very small but has a friendly staff. Microwaved hot dog, but the beer was cold.
First time playing
The staff was nice. The clubhouse looked in good condition. The course layout was nice but the conditions were horrendous crabgrass on all tee boxes/longer grass then the fairways, the rough was all tangled up grass, pace of play was horrible I was behind a foursome the whole time playing by myself and they wouldn’t let me pass. This is not a good representation of an Robert Trent Jones jr style course at all. Please don’t think it is a half decent RTJ course
Gimmicky course
Some holes are borderline unfair. A couple tee boxes have bushes & trees in backswing or overhead that do not allow for a full swing with the drive. Bunkers in rough shape. Greens were okay - spongy & slow. The layout tests you, can be narrow. Be prepared to lose balls.
Cool course but tough
I only played nine holes, but started on the back nine. The course is tough, you really do have to think about your next shot since there are alot of tree branches over hanging the fairway. It's definitely a shot-shaping course but the pace of play was great! I had no one ahead of me and only a single behind me, two holes back so I was able to hit a few extra shots here and there. I'll definitely be back, but I'll play with more caution. You can lose alot of balls out there off a light miss hit into the woods
