Swan Point Yacht & Country Club
About
Situated along the shores of the Potomac River in southern Maryland, Swan Point Country Club has been ranked as one of the top 10 golf courses in the state. Golfers who enjoy playing in the Carolinas will feel right at home on this course. Water or marshland comes into play on 12 holes and there is an abundance of pine trees. The course is also home to a variety of wildlife including osprey, bald eagles, and deer. In addition to the water, strategically placed bunkers add another challenging element to the golf course. The par-5 fourth hole is considered the signature, mostly due to the challenging island green. Proper club selection is key in order to maneuver past the lake that runs along the entire left side of the fairway. The hole is especially hard on windy days.

One of the best in the DMV
Front 9 is currently closed for renovation so played back 9 twice. Love this course. Distance is good, lots of obstacles, and undulated greens. Many many right leaning holes. Can be very wet. Direction control of driver crucial
Hot Deal not worth it
Got the Hot Deal knowing it is walking only- but when we checked in they told us the walking rate in winter is only $20- so we paid more to do the Hot Deal than just book with the course. Never had that happen before but GolfNow needs to fix it.
Wet but Wonderful
The layout of the course is lovely as it winds around marshes and water associated with the creeks and river in the area. However, being at sea level, even after some dry weather there were bogs all over the fairways creating a great number of lift, clean, and place situations as well as quite a number of unplayable lies. There was no run out of drives or long irons and quite a number of plugged balls in the fairways. The greens are quick; contoured and quick! Challenging certainly.
I was surprised by the course conditions...
I was surprised by the course conditions and not in a positive way. Swan Point has always been in excellent condition...has typically rivaled some private courses; however, this is the first time I've ever seen it this wet, soggy, muddy, and nearly unplayable. It was cart path only, but we still saw people running all over the fairways--and getting stuck so others in their group had to push the cart to get it unstuck. We walked--the course is flat and very walkable...normally. However, with the soggy course conditions, it was difficult to walk because you would have to walk around large patches of "bog" in the middle of the fairway, or sink up to your ankle in all the soggy, soft areas. It was just not a pleasant experience today. In fairness to the course, the course layout is a nice challenge and has great views of the water throughout. There are some really pretty par 3's (#11 and #12), and there's water on 12 out of 18 holes. It was a good pace of play today, even with a couple of group of walkers (because the course is stretched out with lots of walking green to the next tee...not because walkers are slow!!). It's a great course, but it really needs more TLC--I've never seen it this soggy, wet and muddy, so I don't know what's changed in their maintenance.
Excellent course!
This is an excellent course with fabulous views and a great layout. This was my first time playing the course. The course was very wet and muddy so the conditions were not optimal. I will play again very soon when the course dries out. It's also a great layout to walk and enjoy the course.
Left after 9 - pace of play - place has tons a potential
Wife and I drove over from Fairfax... This place is no doubt a hidden gem but, conditions were less than ideal due to recent rain and I’m guessing how close to sea level the course is. It’s right on the water.. very saturated, balls were plugging in the fairways every shot.
The layout is top notch - really they have something special, I’d need to come back on an early summer day 1st group out. After two weeks of no rain.
No Marshalls checking on pace - 2.5 hours to finish the front - I left and didn’t bother asking for a rain check. Two groups in front of us were early 20 something college bros making a total mockery of the game with no regard for anyone else on the course.
This place has truckloads of potential to be something really special. Going to give it another shot next summer.
Bring bug spray
Mosquitoes were horrible. Course was really wet. Greens are very good. Cool layout.
Now charging for carts??
I booked a tee time online which said included carts and ).00 due at the golf course. When i got there they charged me 19.00 to use a cart. I've played this course 50 times and they said it was a new policy.
Misleading because online cart was included. Not happy
Great layout!
Best public course around. Greens could use some work a little slow but it’s wet so could be the reason.
Play the right tees
I always try to stop here on my way to southern Maryland,. Good layout and scorecard gives you many options to play the right tees for an enjoyable round. It was cart path only after much rain so walked the course which is a very doable with just a few long walks from green to tee. Other than wet course it is in good shape and if in the area worth the detour.
Nice Course and staff freindly
Sepsite the windy and COVID-19 rules, we had a nice outing. Greens and fairways were in good shape. We each had our own cart and had no problems
Swan Point
Course was in great shape. Greens were the best I’ve seen here.
Not Winter
Normally this course is a great track but right now the greens are in bad shape, tee boxes full of goose poop, and traps just full of dirt. Fairways are still soft and have no roll making the course play longer than it is. There are no ball washers even though most courses around here have them out, water with the solution will not freeze and if you think they will put three on each side each day.
Beautiful round at Swan Point
Weather was excellent for February, course has some very challenging holes.
