Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
Crab grass everywhere
The fairways and rough could use some grass seed. A lot of bare spots everywhere. Lots of weeds also. Very disappointed!
Cow pasture
The putting greens are ok but the tee boxes & fairways are very bad
Decent Golf Outing
Course was in decent condition; clubhouse still needs attention.
Not worth the money
I was disappointed in the condition of the fairways. They were not green, there were many mud patches on the fairway itself and in some instances, the fairways were overwatered.
Great Price and Great Greens
This is the best value for a round I've seen in the area. I played as a single and had a great time. I played early in the morning and played in about 3 hours. Course is beautiful with a good amount of challenging holes and a few to boost your score. There are a few fairways that looked to be overrun by different grass, but looks like the club is taking care of that. Bunkers were hard from rain, but easy to play from. Tee boxes were well manicured. The biggest a draw for this course is the greens. They were smooth and rolled consistently the entire round. Best greens I've played in the metro area. I will definitely play there again!
Good Value for Beginners
I just recently started playing so my frame of reference is small. I'm just looking to play as much as I can without breaking the bank and this course is perfect for that. Not the greatest looking course but it's not pretentious and all the golfers are friendly. I feel like the course is pretty forgiving but I still lost more the a few balls(mostly due to my ability). The last 2 holes can be challenging for a golfer with a slice, water hazards ate 3 of my balls on just the last 2.
Patuxent Greens impressed me with the condition of the greens, they are great!
Greens are in great shape, fairways are good but there are a couple that have weeds, pace of play was great. I will be back, joined the Insider Plus Membership for great golf specials that include free lunch with golf!
Best Greens around
This is my second time in a month playing and I have to say that these greens are the best around. The course is re-sodding 3 tee boxes so there are a few temporary tees, but other than that you can't beat the value this course provides.
OK in a Pinch; Needs a lot of love
I decided at the last minute to play, and since I was going as a single, I was looking for a cheap round. I settled on Patuxent, and thought I'd give it a shot. All in all, the course was a little ragged in my opinion. Not awful, but definitely in need to some work.
The Good: Greens were in great shape. Someone has been diligent about keeping them up. Was actually able to spin a number of shots back, which was a pleasant surprise.
The Bad: Everything else is pretty burnt. Fairways have lots of weeds and brown patches. Rough has lots of patches that are like straw. Lots of tee boxes are closed for repair, and several that were open were not cut short enough.
Conclusion: It's a good place to knock in a practice round to prepare for first rate course, which is what I did. I'm rooting for this place, though. Get the right turf grass crew in there, improve fertilization and weed control, get working on the irrigation system and this course could really be transformed. I like the layout, but right now it's a diamond in the rough.
just okay overal
Not that great: patchy fairway, so-so green conditions Bunkers were not great.
The course design and settings were good.
Not sure if I want to go and play again.
Pace of play was great. (Our tee time was 12:38pm).
Ridiculously Slow Pace
We had a 9:15 tee time and we weren't off the course until 3:00 PM.
We started about 20 minutes late, then were stuck behind an incredibly slow group.
Then on hole 10, a group that had stopped for lunch jumped in front of us and they were even slower.
The course was actually a good value: in good shape and a fun course. But the pace completely ruined the experience. We were waiting for at least 10 minutes for 90% of the holes.
Good Day Spoiled
I had been encouraged to play this course and was pleased when the schedule allowed us to go out Saturday afternoon. Little did we expect to endure a 5 1/2 round on a course that desperately needed rangers to control the slow play, the lack of course management skills, the golf cart antics, the heavy drinking, the multiple shots, the needless and continuous shouting of "fore" that all combined for one of the worst experiences we have ever had on a course. My friend who had encouraged me to play this course later told me, when I reported our experience, that at this course play by 7 am or don't play it at all.
Great Value
In most things you get what you pay for. Not always the case for golf courses. We've all played over inflated green fees, but this low cost green fee is an excellent value. The course is in decent shape, a couple of fairways were burnt, but for the Washington DC area, It's in fantastic shape relevant to the green fees. Greens were in really good shape.
Wanna play an enjoying round without costing you an arm and a leg. This is the place.
Nice Course
I had previously heard that this course was in disrepair, but I found it to be in decent shape with good pace of play, even for a single. Greens were true and course provided a challenge. Didn't realize how wide open it was and windy.
Not a place to play
Unfortunately a bad choice.
The tee boxes are in terrible shape. The fairways are in dire need of maintence & up keep.
The green are nice.
Just an average muni
The course could be so great with a few tweeks. However, no starter or no Marshall people just ran around playing wherever. Very slow pace of play. Green were great but some tee boxes could use some attention.
Overall just disappointed in how it was run. For the price I guess that's what you may run into. However, I do not see my self coming back for this course.
Pace of Play
The Marshall (if there is one) needed to regulate the pace of play. Some of the groups ahead of us spent altogether too much time hunting for lost balls. Other groups behind us were hitting over the top of us. This almost overshadows the positive things , such as how nice the place looked and the beautiful weather.I will be willing to give this place another try, it was a great value thru GolfNow and the staff (most) were very friendly.
Wet
Course in good shape. Greens good . Traps need work hard packed. Needs some good sand. Course holds water. Mud in areas off fairways after days of dry and sunny days. But still a nice golf course. Don't play here after rain for three to four days. Cat path only .
Not Worth The Time
I played this course because of how cheap it was ($25), however I would say that it was not worth it. The conditions were pretty bad, a lot of tee boxes were missing grass, the fairways were a mess, and if you hit your ball into the rough it was pretty difficult to find your ball. There are way better courses in the area for maybe $10-15 more. To me, that is worth it for a course that is more challenging and better kept.
I would disagree with your review because they have some of the best greens in the area and after all the rain it is in pretty good shape.
