Love the Layout--Was Disappointed, Though
I play Blue Mash once or twice a year. With the Tee Time Digital Golf Pass, a foursome was $45 so we decided to drive over (over an hour for many of us). I love the layout with a variety of risk/reward holes and some easy scoring holes. The greens were super fast and most holes were in good condition. However, when we made the turn, #10 was filled with 10 guys aerating the fairway, using blowers (hand and machine), and waving us up to play...and not getting out of the way. It was very distracting, both with the multitude of people out there and all the plugs laying on the surface. So, we played over the heads of the guys (because they didn't get out of the way). The same thing happened on #18...the course should have taken those two holes out of play while they were working on them. Additionally, all the par 3's had the forward/red tees back at the white tees. We assumed they were trying to save the forward tee boxes, but moving the tees two boxes back? We found out when we came in that, oops! They had moved them back for the par 3 closest to the pins for a tournament the day before and forgot to move them back! They sent someone out to fix it--too late for our scores, though. Finally, when we went in to have lunch, the kitchen was closed due to deep cleaning. Every time I play Blue Mash, the forward tees are not where they are supposed to be on the par 3's and something else is going on. Maybe just bad luck (or timing) for me, but I won't go back again this year. Great layout, but too many other distractions for me.
Very Nice course, all golf is $100 now
Well main rained course. Tee boxes, fairways and greens all in good shape. Liked the over all design. Like the shared fairways. Very fair course. There are some very long holes if you play back. Staff was helpful and attentive. Range was in good shape as was practice putting green area with chip and putt green. Overall good experience. We drive from Reaton, VA for an 8:00am tee time and we’re glad we did. It was a beautiful day and experience at Blue Mash.
Course in good shape
Course was in really good shape. Pace of play was good, and Marshall kept it moving. I liked the course layout. I think it’s a course that most golfers will enjoy.
Blue Mash
Course lacks next hole direction sign maybe 3 holes. We were following a father who was slowly teaching his young son how to play. One of our carts ran out of battery at the 12 hole. Difficult greens due to lots of sand aeration
Blue Smash
Always a good time at Blue Mash! Would recommend playing there to anyone. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
Making me blue Blue Mash
Recently purchased by the Kemper Group, and a 20% increase in green fees soon followed
It may be that since I’ve played here so often that it seems to be a bit steep compared to surrounding green fees, but at least it now includes a small bucket.
There was a 1/2 hour fog delay so things got bunched up but to their credit, they kept it moving as best they could but still came out to a five hour round.
All the groups we could see never seemed out of position and everyone played at a fast as pace would allow
My suggestion for the team would to rotate the grass more frequently as even with a mid morning tee time, the grass between the ropes was mostly dirt, and a very large portion of the remaining range is lost to disease so maybe need to bring the mats back until they can recover
The course itself is in really good shape, greens rolling nicely save for the losers who won’t fix their ball marks. Golf’s recent uptick in popularity seems to coincide with new players who don’t understand the importance of this small task
Overall, always enjoy the course but may not play as often as the fee increase just feels to high to me
Always a pleasure
From tees to green course is in excellent condition !! From the get go staff was courteous and friendly !! Pace of play was good and beer cart came at the right times. Challenging course and can’t wait to play again !! Thanks !!
Once great
This course was once great and seeing that most of the reviews here have only one rated course I can only assume they are doing there own work. How can conditions be perfect on a day after they aerated? (in a recent post). They care about the money. How can one up charges and have a course go down in conditions?
Great course that requires a variety of shots
I really enjoyed the course and it was in great shape. What made it so fun was the strategy you needed. This wasn't just a driver, wedge, and putter type of course. I think I hit every club in my bag. I'm looking forward to playing it again in the fall.
