First Time Playing
This course is a little over 1.5 hours for me, but I was down there on business. This course was one of the better military courses (other than US Naval Academy, which is superb) that I've played in the tri-state area. It is well maintained, and has some striking views of the water. The greens were very fast and rolled true, and the layout was pretty much "what you see." It would be an easy course to walk. What was surprising and a real thrill was the runway adjacent and close to the course and several holes. We watched F18's taking off, and it was amazing! What a thrill--and certainly different from any other course I've played. If you can get on base, it's worth playing the course.
Well maintained course
The greens crew at PAX Cedar Pt(CPGC) have done a fantastic job. CPGC has been in far better shape than the other local courses, which cost a lot more. The only issue is that the base has cut their staffing, and daily support in the pro shop and café/bar area are all often covered by one person, which does not work well.
The course is challenging and has many difficult holes as well as some easy ones. The views of the Chesapeake Bay and the surrounding pond areas that you see as you traverse the course are fantastic. It is a very pretty course. The practice areas are far superior to 90% of the courses. I truly enjoy playing at CPGC.
Poor Conditions
I have played at this course a few times, and love the look of the outside of the course. the greens and fairways are always in prefect condition. but the management and clubhouse needs some serious help. First of all when I asked for the manager multiple times he is never in. and when you do get in touch with him, he seems to forget everything. The staff is great other than they seem to be doing too much. the last time I played only one person was forced to work pro shop, bar, and cart person BY THEMSELVES!! Absolutely ridiculous for the manager to do this. The clubhouse itself is not much better. The parking lot is a mess and the building looks like it could fall in. not to mention the fridge in the men locker room that has food in it! hope that is not for the customers. For a golf course on a base I would have expected a lot better
Hidden Gem!
We drove in from DC to play here and it was so worth the drive! Each hole is very interesting and the conditions were excellent. The staff was very friendly and the carts were nice. We saw bald eagles and Ospreys throughout the day. The view of the bay was awesome and really made the drive worth it. We will be back for sure.
A really fine course
this is a military course on a Naval Air Station so access is limited. If you qualify for entrance to the base or are a guest, I highly recommend this course. I play over 100 rounds a year and enjoy every one. Many improvements have been made in the last two years which makes the course a great experience. Very friendly staff. If you're lucky, you will spot a Bald Eagle, or two, during your round.
