Good Course with the Golf Course discount
Every time I've played at this course, the marshall has always been super friendly. I am an amateur player, however this course has definitely built my confidence to play more difficult courses. Found this course on GOLFNOW and for the price it was a good time. At my level I would play this 9 hole course again.
Value for the Discounted Round Price
I had not played this course in several years, mainly due to the cost of 9 holes ($32 w cart).
The course is still fun to play, but it is obvious that it requires attention. There is much construction around the course and the cart path could use some repairs as well.
The fairways and greens are in decent shape.
course
Course was not maintained very well. The sprinkler systems were still running while we were on that hole. Puddles from the sprinkler were covering the green. We could not put from certain places.
good course with some challenge from back tees.
course in good except some greens had burnt spots, but great for my price.
Rainy Monday
Greens were in great shape for this time of year! Fairways didn't have drainage issues
Decent challenge, great pace...but in need of work.
Despite the great weather we've had over the past month, some of the fareways and greens were in awful shape. Decent enough course with some challenging holes that will eat up some golf balls. Great for a quick round and a good value for the greens fees + great views from the fourth green. Wish they had a refreshment cart, however.
The views at this course are amazing
I enjoyed my time at HillTop. The two-level driving range was in phenomenal shape and had various markers. The pro shop was clean along with informative staff. the starter was a friendly guy that afforded us a quick course overview. Overall, wonderful experience!!!
Requires shot making for sure
You better know how to hit your wedge 100 yards for the 3 par 3's that require it. You better leave your driver in the car, and your 3 wood and your driving iron for that matter. Really only 2 par 4's that require anything above a 5 iron. Certainly challenging with small greens and alot of blind approaches, but not very fun for an 18 handicap or worse....punishes errant shots with no chance for recovery. Also, did i mention its short, like really, really short.
Great 9 hole course
Although this course was a short par 3/par 4 course, it was fun. The only downside was the construction going on close by, but that really only affected 1 hole.
Nice practice round. Needed to play 18 holes. putting green not available without paying extra two dollars.
Nice practice round. Needed to play 18 holes. putting green not available without paying extra two dollars.
Really great course to practice your short game and tee shots.
I recommend this course.
I first tried this course as a Groupon and am now a 'member'. Definitely try to find a coupon or sign-up as a member. Its $165 a month for unlimited balls and unlimited play (w/ cart) for a minimum of three months.
The staff are much friendlier once they get to know you and for me, they know my name and always greet me. Very nice for a nine hole executive course/ practice course. The tee boxes are in pretty good shape as well as the greens. This year has been very wet, so a lot of cart path only and 90 degrees.
Holes #1 and #2 are great to practice your short game and get a handle on distances for your wedges. The distances are great whether red, white, blue or black. Some people complain that it is too short - and maybe for a regulation par 3, but to practice your short game, perfect distances.
Hole #3 as mentioned is a monster if you're playing from the blues or blacks, much more reasonable from the whites/reds and challenging. Rewards accuracy.
Hole #4 is a typical par 3 with a bunker to the left and behind the hole, with a challenging green.
Hole #5 lets you stretch your legs and use a driver, but a 3 wood is preferable.
I love hole #6. You can play it as a 125 yard par 3 or test your irons/ fairway woods with a 185/204 yard par 3. As I became better I switched to the blues, very satisfying to hit the green from 185 yards. You also have to clear a ravine so you can't really roll a ball on a fairway to the green.
Hole #9 is a fun way to finish with a downhill 240 yard drive to the bottom from the whites with a nice view.
There is a lot of construction going on and noise on the last two holes, but its finishing up nicely and looking much better than last fall.
Final note, the greens are challenging. Its definitely not a straight shot or slight hill. Lot of saddle backs as on #3 and #5.
Its a great course to become a better golfer. If its not crowded I can finish 9 holes in less than 90 minutes. Great instructors Kathleen and Kendall. My kids are doing the week long summer camp and private lessons and love it.
Again, look for the weekly deals at minimum as they have a lot of specials. The monthly membership is the best deal by far. Unlimited golf and range balls for a $165 a month. If you're looking for Congressional, Bethesda, and/or Belle Haven, this isn't it at all. If you like comfortable, easy access, not too crowded (during the week), and someplace to practice - this is it. The holes definitely translate well to shots you'll make at other courses in the Washington, DC area. The only thing is I wish they had at least one FLAT par 4 hole (+400 yards) to practice your fairway wood with, but other than that its an awesome practice course.
One of the hardest holes in Northern Virginia
Great course to work on your game. Two short par 3's to begin the round has the player worried that the course will be easy. Then all the sudden you get hit with one of the hardest holes in Northern Virginia, a monster 442 yard par 4. If you are playing from the tips it is 227 yards to the fairway but plays more like a 240+ tee shot. Add in the dog leg and the hilly second shot, making this hole a big challenge. The course is in great shape. Your cart is included in your greens fees which makes a round of golf $18 plus a cart fee of up to $14.
Tee shot accuracy a must!
This is a great 9 hole golf course. If you need to work on your short game, this is the place to come. Number 3 is a monster 440 yard dog leg right. If you have a consistent 240 yard drive, you can cut the hill and leave yourself just around 100 yards to the pin.
Beware the hill will eat your ball!!!!!
Fun Pitch and Put
Hilltop Golf is only a 9 hole course, but it was very fun. For the newer golfer I'd say it would help build confidence. The driver only comes out a few times. I recommend it to many people.
Well maintained - nice scenery for a 9 hole course.
Nicely maintained, would be nice to see it turned into an 18 hole course.
Hilltop Golf Visit
The first two holes were very short but after that the course got longer and more difficult. Hole #3 was very difficult because you can hit a solid drive but still loose your ball due to the lack of visibility from the tee box and thick rough.
Greens need some work
Great view but easy course, moves pretty slow and the greens and fairway need some serious work
Beautiful course, a good place to work on your game.
I really like this course, you really feel you are away from it all. I wish they had at least one par 5 and some of the other holes had some added length. The staff might show a little more enthusiasm, I felt in some way my business is not that important to them. Another point I believe mentioning is the price being a little high, if not for Golfnow, I could not afford to play this great game. Overall as I said before the course itself is in great shape and is a great place to work on the game...
first-rate course, very playable
even on a cold winter's day, it was worth playing Hilltop for the GolfNow price. and their normal seniors rate would be nice in season.
after a very iffy start (two short par 3s), the course begins to take on real character at the extremely long third hole par 4 (444 yards straight uphill from the tips). the rest of the holes are a kind of jekyll-and-hyde mix, in a good way: long and hard par 3s with medium-length par 4s.
i walked the course despite several warnings (other golfers, pro shop) that it would be taxing. for those who are part mountain goat, it's not that tough a slog (think little bennett or redgate in MD) -- for just nine holes.
overall, a fun experience and one i'm sure to repeat in coming years.
A good 9-hole course
This course is a bit on the short side but it was enjoyable. Different lay-out and play from the other courses nearby so this was enjoyable. They have a nice driving range too. Definitely play at this course again.
