Reviews
The place to go
The course is great for beginners and experts! Short 9 we’ll manicured, great staff! Really a nice place to play golf in a relaxed setting! I highly recommend it snd the price is awesome!
Ok for practice
I’d say expectation management is the key here. It’s a beat up practice course but for the money AOK. I’ll go again because you need to make shots here. It’s a good short game practice 9 hole course. BBQ after was just what the Dr. ordered
Cosmetic fixes
This was my 5th round played at Virginia Holf Center. It appears the Greens have not gotten any better. On hole number 8 more than 73% of the green is brown. The drainage system needs work. On hole number 6 to the right of the green is supposed to be a sand trap, it’s actually filled with water. (Again drainage problem). Today and today only the tee boxes should have cut priority to play. I guess you get what you pay for. All in all, I had my best scoring round under those conditions.
Practice course...more difficult than you'd think...poor conditions
This is a good place to take kids or beginners, since it's a pitch-and-putt, essentially. However, the course is cleverly designed such that it's harder than you might realize...an island green on 2, well placed bunkers on several holes, and water very much in play on 8.
It's a pleasant walk through woods and the bunkers today were extremely well maintained. But...some of the greens were...uh...well below average. And the "fairways", tee boxes, and rough would not be suitable if they were own yard or even your next door neighbor's yard. Unmowed crab grass, mostly. Hard to find a decent spot to set up the tee shot....
Overall, it may still be worth putting up with the bad conditions if you're looking for a way to get a few shots in or to introduce someone to the game.
Great home practice course
If you can play here you can play anywhere! Great pace! Relaxed play! Fairways are pretty nonexistent though! Overall my go to neighborhood course!
Bad first experience
I booked a deal on GolfNow to play 18 on a Saturday morning. The tee time was 9 am, which is also when the facility opens according to their hours. I arrived at 8:40 and nobody was there to check us in, which I did not consider to be that odd; I just didn’t want to hold other groups up. At 9 am, a line formed to check in at their lobby. We all waited for at least 20 mins before I left and went somewhere else to play. I’m not sure if this is a common occurrence at this academy, but it did not leave a great impression on me.
Quick 9-hole play.
Walking only, 9 hole, par 3 course. You can crank out a sloppy round in less than 90 minutes. It’s perfect for a quick play if you have lunch time obligations.
Pace of play is fantastic
Even though course conditions might not be excellent, I loved the pace of play, course layouts and value for the money.
Okay
This was my first time walking and playing and I was horrible! Hahahah somkich respect for the pros. Smh I pretty much paid to go for a walk! Haha bit that’s on me. I think I’ll go again. I Think the bucket of range balls was a waste. I could’ve got right to it. Nice spot to work in irons though. I’ll go back.
Not what I expected
It's hard to give a bad review on this course because the few people we talked to were very nice. The sole purpose for the low rating is the course is not maintained at all. The greens had multiple splotches of weeds growing all over them. The skirts did too. Par three so no fairway, however the roughs were deeeeeep. The tee boxes were pretty bare. This place has a great looking training facility, but I do not recommend the course itself.
Va Golf Academy
I was not impressed with this course. Too much water hazard including snakes. Since they charge to practice putting, I did not practice
Great Driving Range and Practice Areas;
Nice par-3 course with a lot of character. Primarily for a beginner. Some beginners have no clue as to golf etiquette. As a result, slow play may be an issue. Great practice areas including a very large driving range.
