Awesome Layout But Needs Some Serious TLC
Played South Wales about 35 years ago. Layout is awesome but the course is in sad shape. Have been told the owner doesn't really care. New homes being built around the course so you hope the owner will put some $$ into it (3 million would do the trick) or sell it to someone else who cares. Greens were absolutely horrible. You put 3 million into this course and you will see golfers from all over play this course. Course has sooo much potential but apparently the owner doesn't care. Just think how much money the owner could make if the course was in better shape.
SouthWales sucked!
I've been a golfer for over 14 years and have been playing in multiple golf courses in states of Pennsylvania,Maryland,DC, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. I've to say by far this one is the worst! Extremely poor conditions on tee box, fairway and greens. ProShop man rude and not friendly at all! No starter, no marshall and only the ProShop Mr. Bossy!
Hidden Gem!
This course was once owned by the Army Navy Country Club in the 1960s. I've heard that South Wales struggled for several years with quality of fairways and greens, but that's no longer the case. In the past couple of years, the owner has made huge investments to improve the course, and it really shows. The course is managed very well, and it's quite beautiful. Most of the fairways are wide but still present challenges unique to each hole. The greens are shaping up nicely with the great spring weather and offer some fast putting. (I played this course throughout the winter, so I saw the greens at their roughest.) I've played other courses in NoVA that are crowded and rushed. At this course, tee times are 15 minutes apart, so pace of play is fairly relaxed and fun. There's a nice driving range (grass & mats) and small putting green. The staff is super friendly, and there's both indoor and outdoor tables for dining. (The brats are great!) South Wales is an easy drive from Warrenton, as well as surrounding Culpeper, Loudoun, Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties.

Fun time
I’ve always enjoyed this course. First time playing it in a few years and it is in much better shape than I remember. Just don’t miss because there is no getting your ball back out of those woods. Staff is extremely friendly and price is great. Looking forward to playing again
Conditions Have Greatly Improved
played this course my entire life usually come back to it every year or so to check up on conditions and i was Not disappointed today! All fairways are grown in and lush (Bermuda Grass) the greens although slow (always have been) rolled true on every hole and no bare spots some crab grass and poa annua but never really came into play and was on only a few of the holes tucked back in areas where there's no air circulation. Tee boxs were good mostly grown in i played the black tees (tips) and they need some love but not many people like to play over 7,000 yards! Overall an excellent experience and this is the best shape i've seen it in!
Awesome Layout
I’m from Florida visiting and found it hard to believe no one reviewed this course. It’s a little gem tucked away not too far from Warrenton. The greens are immaculate but a little slow due to the 1 1/2” of rain last night. The lay is great and needs some quality shots to approach the greens from the correct.angle. I highly recommend it !! Thanks
