Conditions are BAD
The conditions are laughable. Not a single tee box has ANY grass. You’re hitting off dirt and sand. Baseball size rocks in the bunkers. Parts of greens completely dead. Just not a lot of grass any where.
Testing course
The layout of the course is definitely testing. A lot of undulation gives blind tee shots or blind shots towards the green. Despite the cold temperature, I really enjoyed the round and will definitely be playing again.
Fun course in the woods
First time playing the course and liked all the elevation changes and not much water.
Cold, Wet & Muddy
Not a great day for golf but the course was wide open and pace of play perfect. Clubhouse Staff were friendly and welcoming. The course was in ok condition but very challenging for someone who doesn't hit long drives. All in all, a good day.
More Improvement
The course conditions were better, all the greens where free of debris. It rained the day before and the course was still in good conditions. I will be back!
Not bad
Good- Greens were in decent condition, just very hard. Pretty challenging course layout. Staff is very nice
Bad- Random unexpected hazards that shouldn’t have been there. Not very well maintained, fairway and greens didn’t have any give, very firm. Leaves everywhere causing a lot of lost balls with good shots.Pay $20 more for a better course.
Great place to hone skills and value make it a 5 star
Prices and availability are great. Encountered slow play, but the Marshal quickly rectified this issue. Fairways and green are lush and consistent. Difficulty is moderate, because easy chances for scoring, but many holes that you need to do course management or you will pencil in a higher score. Mostly straight holes, however creeks, hills and ponds will make you choose your clubs wisely.
Great spot to work on shots!
I enjoy playing Montclair as I am forced to make shots and not just “bomb away”. The terrain and nature provide challenges. There are narrow spaces for targeted drives and par 3s to test irons.
Some tee boxes need care and some bunkers were not prepared, lowering this grade a bit, but still a good round for the money. I played after 2PM for $40 making this a good value.
Good value, Great restaurant
Very pleased with the food and drink quality at the clubhouse restaurant. Very friendly and accommodating staff. They had a $10 burger, fries, soft drink special that was top notch. GReat BURGERS! Bunkers need a lot of work on the back nine especially. Had to hit off of mats on a few of the tee boxes. Overall nice round for the money with crazy high rates at most courses these days.
