Sewell's - A Real Gem
Course is well maintained and the staff is very friendly. Greens are quick and sloped in many cases with undulations. Not overly long but challenging. Putting is important and don't get above the hole to score well. Bunkers are well maintained. A walker friendly course.
Really Good
Simple course with a simple layout, but the staff is putting in OT making sure everything is fantastic. The best cared for course in this price range in the 757, easily. So good!
Great Experience
I was greeted very cheerfully and professionally by the ladies in the pro shop. They were incredibly informative and helpful knowing that it was my first time at the course. They had just punched the tees that morning but it was no problem. The greens had been punched recently and had not fully healed so they didn’t roll true but were very soft and gettable. Fairways were in great shape. I had a great time and will go back.
Not worth the time or money
Simple, go to another course. The staff is among the worst I’ve seen anywhere for any service and the course is annoyingly boring. There are cheap courses that don’t make you leave in a sour mood, this place isn’t worth the time or money.
Great Course
This is one of the best Military run courses I have ever played. I had a 1030 tee time and since they had some open tee times they let me start early. The course was in pretty good shape. Definitely a great deal.
Great course
Great course - very good condition given the time of the year.
Staff is super friendly and helpful.
Will come again.
Donald Ross for $15
Great layout. Greens in great shape, very fast, and lots of break. A couple of tee boxes were thin, otherwise good shape. Used my GolfNow hot deals and another discount to play for $15. Highly recommended!
Sewell's Point Golf Course
Sewell's Point is a neat little Donald Ross design at the entrance to the Norfolk International Terminal South Gate and run by the Navy. It has a nice practice area with a couple of putting chipping greens and a driving range. The staff is friendly and the cart fleet was in good shape. The course itself is a typical Ross design. It is pretty flat, owing to it's location, and there isn't much trouble to be found off the tee. Fairways are generous and the rough is not penal. The greens are all pushed up, and most slope from back to front. On and around the greens are where the challenge is posed on this course. Water only comes into play on two holes, #2 and #11. Pace of play was great. I got around the front 9 in just over an hour, and the two groups I caught on the back both let me play through.
Great Donald Ross course
Wonderful layout and great value. Course is in OK shape, but the Ross design is great. Greens were very good, fairways and tee boxes alternated between fine and a bit rough. The very mature trees could use some trimming to remove dead and overhanging branches. Overall a nice hidden gem in Hampton Roads.
