No more
Have been playing Owl's Creek for many years but no more. The greens don't exist - all are sandy so putting is like playing on hardened sand. It is impossible to judge your shot when it has to go over small, weedy patches. Most of the greens are nothing more than brown patches. I would not recommend anyone to play this course if you want to have an enjoyable day playing golf. You won't. So I say goodbye to Owl's Creek until they fix up the course. It's a shame since it is one of the few courses where the less experienced can play a shorter course.
Kinda fun!
Been coming to Virginia Beach for many years simply to play golf (and a little beach). We always play Owl's Creek on the first day just to get warmed up for the rest of the week. Yes, I agree with most of the negatives in the previous reviews, BUT, although its short, you really need to be able to control your short game. Shot placement is very important. We will continue to warm up at Owl's Creek in the future.
horrible conditions
Save your money play somewhere else... the greens are in horrible condition the worst greens I have ever seen in my life... they had no grass on them and you are putting on hard dirt... I played the hot special of 10 bucks riding and I over paid by 11 dollars.. you could not pay me to play there ever again... stay far far away from this course.
Good for working irons
This course is in poor shape. My 16 old son walks it to practice irons cause it is real short and cheap
Steer Clear and play another VB Municipal!!!!
I am a local to Virginia Beach and I frequently use Owl Creek's driving range because it is usually not crowded and their grass practice boxes are in good shape. I frequent this driving range because it is close to my place of work. I had played the course three times previously over the last few years and it was in pretty poor shape each round I played, which is why I stick to the range now. My experience at Owl Creek today prompted me to alert other golfers about the actual 18 hole course. Do your game a favor and steer very clear. Owl Creek is not playable once you reach the putting surface. It is a shame that golfers coming to play this course are not warned of the shameful conditions of the greens before paying. If you are from out of town do your self a favor and play elsewhere. I would rather drive to Suffolk to play a 9 hole carved out of someone's peanut field for the $15 dollars before I would ever think to play this course again. What's a pity is this course has serious potential and could be wonderful if someone cared enough to properly maintain the putting surface. The fairways and tee boxes are in decent shape but these course conditions are just a case of pure carelessness. There is no point in playing a round of golf if you cannot score from the putting surface. The best way I can describe the putting surfaces is a tarp pulled taut over a gravel driveway. Nothing but brown mush and mud pits. I was putting around big weeds!!! I drove around to try and find a green worthy of playing up and onto. All 18 greens are in the same shape. I have never even remotely thought of walking off a course in my 14 years of golfing, but I did today. I loaded my clubs and walked into the clubhouse and inquired about a refund, which was immediately granted. The staff are very nice but given the speed of the cash drawer opening I am sure I am but one on a long list of people who asked for a refund due to the unplayable course conditions! I hope someone who cares about GOLF buys Owl's Creek and makes it playable again before it becomes an outlet mall like Lake Wright GC!!!
greens
the worst I have ever seen. only one had any playability
Oceanfront visitors will be disappointed
Have played the course many times ....this was my last round their everywhere. I wondered why we played so fast and it's because there was no one playing due to terrible greens conditions. Being a prime destination for tourist they will most likely play the closest course to where they are staying that is not private. I do not reccomend wasting your money for these poor conditions. On the other hand you can hit balls on the range that is in better condition than the course.
Executive course
You can play 18 holes in no time. My wife and I enjoy the views.
Hole in one
I would consider this course iron friendly because at least half of the course is short tee shots and irons will be used instead of drivers. However that said the rolling and really hilly landscaping is somewhat of a challange even using the irons. Now for the good news, I got my first hole in 1 from the senior tee at the 8th hole, 102 yds using a hybrid 7 iron. I'll take the 102 yds, I'm not proud
executive course mainly a par 3
I play this course about once every 2 months or so. The greens are usually not bad. Something had happened and the greens were not cut, very slow and they were spotted with burnt areas and patches of some sort of bad growth. The golf carts are never in the best of condition. Sometimes the hill break does not work so you have to search for one that does. It is a little hilly so I deem it important. The sand hazards were not raked and had weeds growing in them. It was not a satisfying round for me and my friend's. I liked playing there because I could work on my wedge game. But I do not think I will be going back this year. They need to take care of the course and get control of the greens at a minimum.
Poor course conditions
I've played occasionally at Owl's Creek for many years but will not return unless someone I trust tells me course conditions have improved. Although many of the fairways are in OK shape, several others, including the area in the middle of the fairway around the 150-yard marker on 7, are overgrown in some parts while bare in others. The greens were shaggy and slow although the area had not had any rain for several days. In addition, the two greenside traps on both 7 and 9 are overgrown with vegetation as if they're being allowed to go to seed. This can be a fun, little course, and when in good condition, perfect for a 3-hour round. I hope that someone will put some money into refurbishment of the course, however, because for the time being, it's off my playing list.
Fun course
First time playing owls creek. Course was in decent shape...greens we're a little bumpy. This course challenges your short game and for the price it's a no brainer. Fun course to play.
Enjoyable round
I really enjoyed my round. Pace was good. Course was in good condition.
Not in good shape
The grass wasn't cut all the bunkers had nothing but weeds in them. The greens were not really well taking care of either. Can't believe it get to this point being that it was really good last year.
Unkept executive type short course...
I was unaware that it had a par of 62. So that would mean shorter holes. But I played because it was a nice day. And the group in front got a hole-in-one. That is something to remember. But I probably will never go back.
Greens
The Putting Greens were not good. They were very slow and looked like something has eaten some of the greens, since they were spotty.
Serait très agréable si bien entretenu
Les trappes de sable sont inutilisables tellement elles sont mal entretenues. Mais personnel très acceuillant.
Well.....
Course in very poor shape. Would be good for beginners.
Executive Course That Needs Some TLC!
A good course to get in a quick 18 and practice your short iron game at the same time. Good course to get your smaller kids on. The course is set up with a lot of thought. Some elevated tee boxes, some elevated greens, and lots of water. What this course is missing.......is a grounds crew. THIS COURSE NEEDS TO BE CLEANED UP! The greens are in very rough shape with many dead spots, and lots of ants building mounds on them. Also, the sand traps have not been worked on since last year. They are full of weeds and leaves, and rock hard. If the course managers start taking a little pride in the way this course looks, I will go back. Until then, there are better courses in Virginia Beach.
great short game challenge
course is not long but will work you short game hard
