Best kept secret in Northern VA
I play Lake Ridge at least 3-4 times per month.
The course manager Mr. Clifford has done a phenomenal job cleaning up this course!
It is a night and day difference from last year!
Mrs. Robin in the pro shop is an absolute joy.
Par 3, 9 holes.
Hole 4 and hole 7 are both over 170 yards to practice longer irons or hybrids.
Great for Beginners
The course is hilly so it’s a good workout along with short distances from the tee (60-90 yards). They usually have a sale $7 9-holes, midday on a weekday and if you’re playing alone and would like to work on your short game, $7 is not bad at all. Cheaper than a bucket of range balls. Yes, I recommend this course. The (very slow) greens are better compared to last summer. Maybe because it rained a couple of days ago.
good for golf training
Good place for short game and golf training/improvement
Great for Kids
Great round with my 6 year old son. Course was great for the price.
Lakeridge Golf course
But for the tee boxes that really need attention, it was a fun day out.
A good Course on which to practise your short game.
Good for Short Game, That’s About It
I’ve been playing Lake Ridge for over a decade, and there’s a good reason I choose to keep coming back. It’s very cheap to get a tee time, about $9, and that’s about all that it’s worth.
There is almost never a single person on the course, meaning you can take your time playing, or even fly through your round if you wanted to. It’s certainly not an extravagant country club, but it serves it’s purpose as a great place to work on your irons. I personally don’t use any club with a lower loft than a 7i, and most holes can even be played with a Pw, some with a 60°.
The range is a 10-yard deep net, so it’s not very good for seeing ball trajectory, but it’s nice to get warmed up nonetheless. The putting green is actually surprisingly large and has some nice contour to it.
Recently, the course is actually in fairly decent shape. The tee boxes were marginally acceptable, the fairways and greens were well-kept, but the bunkers could use some real work, since not a single one of them was anywhere near playable.
Overall, it’s $9 for a reason, and if anyone wants to complain about this not being a fun little course, I would be the first to argue with them. This course is the sole reason my short game is as good as it is today. It’s literally $1 per hole if you book a Hot Tee Time, so I would definitely recommend at least trying it out if you’re considering it.
