Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Needs help
I understand we’re at the beginning of the season, however bunkers are in absolute terrible conditions, tee boxes spotti, almost better to hit from rough than fairways. Driving range is a joke. Greens were only saving grace.
A work in progress
The greens are back to where they used to be. They are working on the bunkers, adding white sand. Fairways are starting to come to life.
Great layout and pace of play
Great layout and pace of play. Course still recovering from the winter but I would imagine in the summer it perks up. Doing a lot of bunker maintenance around the course which will be nice in a couple months.
Great, challenging golf course
Pace of play was great. Course in good shape considering the rain the day before. Recommended and I will be back
review
great course. fast greens. The desk pro was very helpful. I will be back.
Pace of Play Issues- An Understatement
5.5-6 hours to play 18 is ridiculous and then the group in front threatened one of the people in the foursome I played with bodily harm with a weapon. This place is too slow to be worth even $40 let alone $90+
Did not honor online pricing as confirmed by phone call
I have played the terrific Old Hickory golf course MANY times over the past 20+ years and I have ALWAYS enjoyed playing it, but because of how I was treated last week, I will never play there again. Online, the Friday rate for seniors was shown to be the same as senior rates for MON-THURS (see uploaded image). I emailed the GM to verify if this was accurate, but received no response. So, I called the course pro shop a few days later to confirm that the senior rate WAS in fact good for Friday 9/29 – I was told unconditionally that the answer was YES. When I arrived at the course on 9/29, I was told that Friday rate for seniors was NOT the rate that I found online and which had been confirmed by phone. It appears that the GM changed the rates online prior to my arrival on 9/29, but did not let me know of this change. To me, this matter was handled unprofessionally.
Course in poor condition
The tee boxes were in poor condition. They would have been bare if it was not for the crab grass. 6 fairways were cart path only. Not worth the expensive greens fees. Premium green fees muni course conditions.
Needs some improvement
Old Hickory is looking rough. Fairways are balding, dry and lacking turf. I hit 79% of fairways that day. Course needs a lot of seed placement in the fairways and water. A couple of the fairways are in great shape, but most need some attention. Greens were ok, and appeared to have been punched recently. I play here a lot and enjoy the course, but all the tournaments have taken a toll on Old Hickory.
Good layout, poor conditions
It was my first time, given rec from friends in the past, my hope was high. Sadly, my experience was otherwise. It could be a fun course but fairway had no grass (literally), tee box had no grass (most spots were just sand) bunkers has no sand. Wish i had taken pictures. Greens were good. There were people looking for balls, hitting it from other fairways etc. i understand it was a holiday but it didn't have to be a 5 hr round. Sad to say i wont go back there for $100.
Know before you go...
Course was CPO due to the hot weather. What??? Better call before making tee time, unless you were going to walk anyways. Greens were soft, slow, and full of un-repaired ball marks. Needless to say, there weren't many folks playing and so they stopped the beverage cart service and most of the water jugs on the course were empty. Way to go...
Fairways and tee boxes are atrocious
Very disappointing experience. Slow play to be expected, but no rangers trying to keep players on pace. But the overall condition of course was not worth the price. Tee boxes are nothing but can grass and other weeds. No true teeing area. The fairways were bare, overridden with weeds and had just been aerated. Not ideal.. it's too bad because earlier this year, the course was in Gohan shape, but no longer.
