Player-friendly Brandywine Country Club in Wilmington a local favorite in the Delaware Valley

WILMINGTON, Del. -- Brandywine Country Club is a player-friendly public layout that is a local favorite.

It is not the most formidable golf course, but it is popular since it's accessible for all skill levels while still offering some interesting holes. The course was redesigned in 2005, making it more playable and improving its conditions.

The traditional design features tight fairways that are lined with trees. There aren't many water hazards but water is a memorable feature thanks to the challenging final hole. The 18th is the course's signature hole, a par 3 that has a large lake guarding the front and right. The prevailing winds also sweep from left to right, which makes the sloped green even trickier to find. Be sure your shot doesn't veer too far left since there are out of bounds all along that side.

In addition to the golf course, Brandywine also has a practice facility with a large putting green, driving range and shore game area.

Born and raised in the former Soviet Union, photographer Oleg Volovik moved to the United States in 1992 and now lives with his wife and two children in Los Angeles.
