Wish my game was as good as weather
Beautiful fall day. Course in good condition for time of year and that it is public. Longer and tighter fairways for this beginner. Lots of hard turns 100 yards from hole (not dog legs, they are turns). A little hilly but more level lies than Lakes course. Staff were fine (helpful, did their job and got us off on time). Very nice afternoon of golf
In surprisingly rough shape
Good course; I reviewed at more length below. On second visit of the year, surprised that fairways were not recently mowed, rough definitely not mowed, tee boxes not so good. Most greens were in good shape.
Overplay is taking its toll on many courses, but Oaks was in rough shape.
Condition not worth cost
I was very disappointed on the condition of the course. The tee boxes were very chewed up and there were bare or very wet spots in the fairway. Even with a Hot Deal on Golf Now the total cost of round with cart was more than $55.00. Most of the greens were in good shape but a few had bare spots They were however most true even though they were slow. It's actually too early in the year for the course to be in this shape. Its saddened me about the condition because I really enjoyed the layout and the friendliness of the staff. It was my first time to play here and I don't believe I will return. I have generally played once or twice a week since moving to the DMV area and the cost just doesn't correlate to the conditions or of competing courses in the area.
Overall course condition, terrible
It has been a while since my last visit to this place. Since then, the course condition has definitely deteriorated, which includes bare spots on the green, dusty fairways, and the tee box feels like I am at the beach.
And, there are definitely more players pushing carts now. This may be from the golf course charging extras for the power cart now (imo).
Fun time
I played the front in 45, but didn't do so well on the back, hitting a 53. Typical, yet fun day and course was in nice shape considering the heat we've had.
Poor condition
The course does not like a lot of rain, large bare spots on the fairways
Good public course but beware busy times
The Good: Fun course with a few challenging holes. Check in was very smooth and there were good facilities for warming up.
The Bad: We got barked at by one of the starters despite being on time and having to wait for the group in front of us to clear before teeing off. Pace of play was pretty slow overall. It took over 4.5 hours, waiting to hit every shot. Greens were pretty beat up by people not repairing ball marks.
The younger, better twin at Twin Lakes
The Oaks course is the newer and seemingly more challenging course at busy Twin Lakes, carved through the woods and generally away from the actual Twin Lakes. There is a good mixture of long and short holes and elevation changes, but it's a very walkable course. As a County course, it gets a lot of play from players of dubious talent, so the conditions can be spotty, but Parks staff does a better job than many of the privately-owned courses in the area.
Short hitters might struggle here given a few really long holes, but it is possible to score here, as the design is very fair and straightforward. The first two holes are bears, but it gets easier by hole 3!
Always a pleasure to play.
Course was absolutely amazing. I think the shut down was put to good use. Fairways and greens were flawless, maybe a tiny bit slow , otherwise perfect.
