Beautiful Course

Course was in immaculate shape, it had rained the night before so pretty heavily soaked fairways and cart path only was the downside. Beautiful views on almost every hole, will be back in the future.

Excellent Experience

I booked this round through Golf Now, it was flawless. Tee was reserved at course and had no problems. The staff was awesome and the course was in great shape. The course is very challenging with a great layout. 10/10!!

SLOW PLAY

This is one of my favorite places to play. The only drawback for me is they do not have any rangers on the course to manage slow play. It took over 5 hours to play and there were several holes open.

Scenic, gorgeous, TOUGH!

In my first season of golf and where I play at home is flat and forgiving. This beautiful course is neither flat nor forgiving. Bring lots of balls! You won’t get a career lowest score here but you will spend a nice chunk of hours on the prettiest course of your life. Tee boxes are rough but the rest is gorgeous.

Breath-taking

Staff are very friendly.
Course is well maintained.
The only problem was that I was charged again at the shop saying that they don’t do Golf Now reservations.
My card was charged for 2players amount at Golf Now.
I just don’t know how to get the refund.

First Time Playing Will Be Back!

Heard some good things about this course from quite a few others so we took the 3 1/2 hour drive to this course.

The Good:

-Course design was amazing, what a fun place to play
-Fairways are in really great shape, no issues as at all with this
-Beautiful area to visit and the roads there were not bad at all
-the front staff was great in providing us with a bag drop and ensuring our stay there was pleasant, hats off to you guys for making our stay amazing!

The Bad:
-Greens are a little rough and you can see some past issues are still nagging them, was informed they are to be punched and topdressed the week on 7/14/2021 to address these issues.
-Tee boxes are coming back in but still need some work
-The carts struggled to climb some of the hills between holes

Really recommend anyone trying this one out.

It'll take two or three years to get this course back in condition

They lost their pumping system, and then when they got it back on line a lightning strike took it out again. I suppose those are circumstances beyond their control, but they need to just close the course. We played it in a tournament yesterday, and it certainly wasn't worth the money nor the time it takes to get there. The Tee boxes are weeds, and the greens are only half there. There are splotches of grass here and there with dirt in between. There is no way to line up and putt unless you happen to be a couple feet from the hole and on grass. Fairways were in pretty good shape, but due to a large amount of rain it was cart path only and they were soaked. I don't believe they will get these greens back in shape for a couple years. It would almost pay to close the course, strip the greens of what little bit of grass is left and reseed them. At least you'd have a consistent cover. I know from what I've been told it's not their fault, and they are supposing to give a green fee discount, but unless the discount is 100%, there's not much reason to play this course right now. It needs a lot of work.

A beautiful layout

My friends and I played this and all agreed that it was a beautiful layout and stunning views. The problem was the overall condition of the course was poor, the fairways were a mess and the greens in many spots were bare and dead.

This would be a spectacular course if it were maintained well.

Course scenery is awesome

The layout of snowshoe is nicely cut through the mountains of WV. The holes are laid out differently and the elevation changes are extreme. This is our favorite course to play in WV and highly recommend the experience to golfers of all levels.

Great Staff, Good Amenities, Average Course

I played this course twice in two days with a group of guys in mid-July. The course was in outstanding condition, particularly in light of the fact that they only have a half dozen or so people on the grounds crew-- as the starter shared with us. The staff inside and outside the clubhouse was outstanding and incredibly polite and friendly. The pace of play was very fair. We were not held up, nor did we hold up any groups. The value was also very solid with $49 weekend rates after 2pm. I believe before 2pm it is $89, which is on the cusp of not providing good value.

The design of The Raven was problematic for me. The one demand I have of any course and it's design is that it should never penalize a good shot. There are several holes on this course that either have blatant design flaws that contradict this rule, or simply are designed in a fashion that makes it hard to judge how to play the hole. The first example of a hole that makes it nearly impossible to judge is #4. The hole descends several hundred feet and has a fairway that is diagonal relative to the tee box. My group hit all sorts of different clubs trying to find the right one to find the fairway and really struggled, almost all of us driving through the diagonal fairway and into the hazard area. I believe the right club off the tee box is a 6 iron. I generally don't think good par 4s should require a mid-iron off the tee. The first incredibly blatant design flaw is on hole #5. This is a very fair uphill par 5 which has a tree about 250 yds out directly in the middle of the fairway. A hole with a tree in the middle of the fairway can not be taken seriously. Other major design flaws on this course that are peppered throughout are holes where a fairway falls away from the center toward woods and as you approach the rough from the center of the fairway the terrain slants even more dramatically toward the woods. In other words, you could bomb a drive 280 yards but if it lands on the left third of the fairway it will go out of bounds to your left as there is nothing to stop it. This is simply a poor design that penalizes otherwise great golf shots. Beyond these course elements, this course didn't have overly thoughtful green complexes. For instance, sand traps built btw putting surfaces and terrain falling away to woods were really small and nearly incapable of doing what they were intended to do-- catching balls destined for out-of-bounds. Greens didn't have much undulation. Most all traps were very small and randomly placed.

Overall I just found this course a little frustrating to play. It is such a gorgeous setting and it didn't need to be built to punish the golfer more than the mountain terrain and tight fairways already naturally do. With that said, I would play it again at rates like 49, but probably not 89.

Mountain Beauty

Gorgeous setting. After two days of rain & fog at 4800 feet the skies cleared and this gem played well. Beautiful fairways and drastic elevation changes challenge you to hit em straight or tee up another. Friendly staff, especially Chris the starter added to the experience. Will definitely return.

Great golf, great beauty, great value

Played several days after season opener in May and pretty much had the whole course to myself. It was still a little early in the season, so the course conditions were probably not at their best. The course layout and scenery is off the charts. It is actually not a very difficult course as many of the holes are downhill, with cart path headed uphill between holes. In addition, as hilly as the course is, the greens are flat and slow. This course is far nicer than some that are several times the price.

Very Challenging, Gary Player made a gem

Lot's of elevation changes, well groomed, very challenging course. Playing from the tips offers a lot of blind shots and skinny fairways.
