Belmont Golf Course
About
Belmont Golf Club originally opened in 1916, making it one of Henrico County's oldest courses. The original design was updated in 1927 by Donald Ross and in 2020 by Love Golf Design. The course has a traditional layout. The length and design are indicative of the time when it was built, but it is just as challenging as any modern course. There are a few tough holes that will challenge even the best golfers. Mature trees line Belmont's fairways and there are strategically placed bunkers along the greens. Being one of the most affordable rounds in the area, Belmont Golf Club has become a favorite amongst locals over the years.

Bad
First thing when trying to play in the fairways there was lots of grass all over where it has just been cut. Second thing play the first 12 holes and when I got to the six par threes there was quite a few people already backed up on the first tee on the third hole of the par three there was a family of four kids that was Stanley hit one ball right after another off of the Teebox went to the gentleman that was working in the little building and asked could he do something to speed them up or would it be OK if I went and played the first six holes again . He said he could not allowed to do that that I would have to wait to play the six par threes. I decided to go ahead and put the pushcart back where it belongs and load my clubs up and I will not return to play again. When you get one group holding up three other groups and no one wants to speed them up or get them out of the way that makes it for a long day of golf. The best thing on this course it did have some decent bunkers and sand in them.
One unhappy golfer that will not play there again. Paid $48 to try to have an enjoyable day and could not do it
Golf rethought
Such a fun day at Belmont. Bring your rangefinder for the par 3s. Much better if you walk.
Good
It’s a fun course, they’re still working on the Tee Boxes. I’d say 6/12 were rock solid. The design and layout were both fun and challenging, greens ran fast. Little bell was okay, first time playing the addition. Only 1 long par 3, the rest were 50-70 yards. For the amount of money, I’d probably just play somewhere with a full 18.
It's a shame
For what ever reason you've taken a good 18 hole golf course and turned it into a 12 hole what ever you want to call it. Finally did something good with the bunkers and raised the price to something no one thinks it's worth. And.....the maintenance of the tee boxes is nothing like I've ever seen anywhere....poor.....never cleared of any old tees and hard as brick.....
Great for the price
Great course for the price. 12 legitimate holes + a 6 hole par 3 course. This could be a pro or con depending on the golfer. Bunkers have perfect sand, however people are being lazy and not raking bunkers or fixing ball marks. That’s the only complaint…. Not the course but the lazy people playing it. People just need to respect the game and the course. This is a problem everywhere. If you fix all the marks in the way, the greens roll true and have enough undulation to make it tricky.
Interesting holes. You can imagine what it was like as an 18 hole layout.
Too bad only 12 holes.
What were they trying to do?
When heard Love Golf Design renovated Belmont, it sounded like we'd have a very enjoyable, some challenging aspects and twists, but overall a very playable course again. First Tee becoming the principle of the course sounded awesome, extending golf's reach to the next generation of golfers. If that was the intended target, the DESIGN MISSED THE MARK. Its a punishing layout, resulting in a frustrating round. We don't need to teach kids that golf can be very difficult to succeed playing. WHY? I've never seen the majority of a courses greens to be entirely sloped, very few greens have any flat areas here. The greens' speed is inconsistent, one is relatively fast, the next one greatly slower, that's 30% of the greens problem, the remainder is their difficult playability. The result is an extremely difficult 2-putt paring of a hole. Now if you drop your 2nd shot 5' from the hole like we see the Pro's do sometimes - well, I'm not a Pro - far from it. Greens lack of consistency is usually a sign of poor greens' maintenance. Was this maintenance considered in the redesign? It appears not. SAND TRAPS - it was great to see pictures of the white fluffy sand. It's a different story when faced with deep traps with heighten walls facing the direction of the hole. Landing in a fairway trap is punishing enough, being unable to reach the green due to the tall walls - is simply just no fun. This is not a championship course any longer, it's a public course that should be inviting to the general public golfer. The Belmont Golf Course needed restoration largely in part due to the lack of sand trap and greens maintenance. Will the restoration be sustainable? I hope so, but appears to already be a challenge after one year; the maintainability requirements will continue to increase. That requires increased green fees revenue; IMHO, I'm afraid they have missed the mark and shot themselves in the foot. I won't be back anytime soon, there are more enjoyable choices.
Not great
In theory 12 normal holes and 6 holes of par 3 would be fun. Unfortunately, the course conditions were poor and the par 3 side is very underwhelming in all aspects. One of the holes was closed with no warning from staff and many of the par 3 holes are very short.
Gem & Friendly staff
Really great 12 hole executive course with very friendly staff. Can’t beat the price for the 2:40 mins of enjoyment. Very fair course with challenging greens.
Inaccurate description of the course
Not exactly 18 holes. It’s 12 holes + 6 par 3 holes. I booked through TeeOff with carts included. It turned out that after 12 holes on riding carts, we had to switch to pull carts for the park 3 holes. No. 3 hole was even closed without an advanced noticed. The layout is confusing, GPS watch can not find the distance at all. The grass is completely brown, hard to find balls.
