Garrisons Lake Golf Club
About
Garrisons Lake Golf Club, nine miles north of Dover, is a historic play centrally located to all parts of Delaware. The course is nature friendly: with tree-lined fairways and large, well bunkered greens throughout. The par-72, 7,060-yard course was recently renovated and improved, and players of all abilities will be confronted with a fair challenge. Not that there aren’t hurdles. Garrisons Lake is book-ended by two long plays: The 535-yard, par-5 first features out of bounds along the left side, and the 536-yard 17th features a challenging tee shot with trees on the right side. Garrisons Lake Golf Club also has a bustling practice range, putting green, golf shop and snack bar.

First 3 holes under renovation which made it a little unexpected for our first round there. After that we really enjoyed discovering the various designs of the holes but much enjoyed the back 9 better. Enjoyed our round! Thanks!
Getting better
Played a few weeks ago an was surprised of the first 2 holes being par 3s and then the general overall conditions after that. Booked as a 2 some the night before for 11am. Played in 3 hours after going thru 1 group on the back 9. Thanks again fellas!!
First 2 holes haven’t changed. It is what it is an I suppose it will be better in the long run.
The continuing work is showing results. Noticed more bunker reshaping and rebuilding in process. Fairways are 80%+ very nice. The greens and bunkers are above average. Looks better then I came ever remember in my 15+ years playing here. Very open and generally flat. Just off the fairways is a bit rough in some areas.
Tough par 3s and some of the longer 4s around, make it an honest course to play.Catching an occasional hot deal and improving conditions make Garrisons very welcoming at this time . Actually, playing again next Saturday. I do recommend.
Nice course for beginners
As a 67 year old senior player, this course has become my favorite. The greens are all nice and true. I live in Wilmington but the ride is only about 30-35 minutes.
Rehab
Overall course is fine, yet 1st & 2nd holes were shut down to 100 yd approach chip shot due to repairs. Greens in excellent shape as well as fairways. few t boxes were dirt and uneven. No amenities at all.
Two holes under repair and slow play
I have played garrisons several times over the years and it has gotten worse each year. The first two holes are under repair, so they have been changed to short par threes. Then the pace of place was so slow due to the amount of people on the course on a Tuesday at noon. There was such a back up at hole 13 that I left. I’ll never go back there again. There’s no way this course is worth $42.
Been 5 years
Can’t believe it, but 5 years. The first 2 holes are shrunk down from a par 5 and 4 , to 2 short holes under 150 yards each. Would have been nice to know prior to playing. After that, fairways are in above average shape. Same with basically complete course. Greens ran slow due to overnight rain. Will definitely NOT be 5 years before returning.
Good Course
This is my favorite course in the area. However, they need to manage the pace of play better. There’s no course attendant. Yesterday and elderly couple decided to jump in front of us. On the 4th hole. Just drove ahead of us parked their cart on the fairway and started to play. Never asked us if it was ok. Totally rude. If I see them again I’m going to let him know about it.
Enjoyable round of golf
Decent driving range. Good putting area.
No snack bar (some microwave options and bags of chips).
Fairways and greens in good shape. Rough areas are pretty bare and thin. Makes for an easier round for a beginner (which I am) and a fair layout of the course too.
General course conditions like cart path etc are ok.
Price is reasonable. Not the cheapest but not overpriced either.
I’ve played here a couple of times and will again as I am a beginner and it is a great family/beginner course.
Great place for beginners to play
The greens aren’t impossible to score on. A few difficult holes but fun to play.
Greens Growing in Great
Course is really starting to green up. Greens are looking and rolling great. Fun layout, great value for money.
