Meh
I play here alot, its close to my work. It's not what one would call a "good" golf course, bunkers are a mess, carts are on their last leg, cart paths are falling apart, lots of surly retiree golfers. But, its relatively cheap and relatively convenient so location location location wins out.
Good value
Course personnel were great. Start was on time and pace of play was great. Course was really drying out on the fairways which helped tee shots some but some rain is greatly needed. Greens were in pretty good shape and a bit fast on the sunny slopes. Some of the bunkers could use a bit more sand around the edges. Overall it was a good round of golf.
Fine for a cheap round, hackers paradise.
First off, to generations now this course is colloquially known as Porkey's. The course is fine if that's what you're expecting, just "fine". Greens were better than I expected but that's not saying a lot. The ground is rock hard so your ball lands and can go a multitude of directions. It's hard to hit a pure shot when the ground and turf has zero give to it. Bar area is nicely redone and staff is friendly. There's not really anything interesting to report about the course design. I really only play this course with beginners, it's fine for that or a round where you just want to get out and don't really care about your game.
Go Play a Par 3
Pace of play is not worth your time. Ranger and clubhouse are useless. The Tee boxes are made out of dirt. Go to a driving range or pay for a nicer course. This is my 3rd time playing here this season. After ownership changed to Indigo Sports this place is for college kids to lose balls. Will never play here again. Thanks.
Terrible, disgusted, worst golf experience
If I could rate it zero starts, I absolutely would. I’ve been to many golf courses and this has been by far the worst. They started each group at hole one, causing a line of 6 people just to start off. The play was slow, took over 2 hours to play 9 holes (with only one person playing), and everyone around was complaining about the slow play. The course conditions were dry, with broken concrete all over, and massive holes on the sides of the green. The golf cart breaks we’re not working and the leather on the seat was completely ripped on the driver side. I’ve never been this disappointed with an experience anywhere. I was looking forward to this all day, and it was nothing but disappointments.
Good day of golf
Good day of golf for late July. The tees and greens were in good shape and the pace was very good. We had to wait a bit for the group ahead of us, but our threesome got through all 18 with a short break at the turn in under 4 hours. Looking forward to my next round!
Cut the rough down
The course isn’t bad and the greens were in great shape, but the rough was ridiculously long. If you don’t hit a fairway/green, you probably just lost a ball. The rough was so frustrating and costly.
Good staff, nice course & layout, bad rentals
I know this review is not for everyone, but I will start off with the rental clubs. I flew in from Vegas (where I live) and obviously couldn’t bring my clubs with me. I was thinking, okay great ratings overall I’m sure they are stocked with some pretty decent rental clubs. Not the case, terrible rentals. However, if I had my clubs it would’ve been a lot more enjoyable because the staff was great, the course layout was awesome, the approaches were challenging, and the course conditions were good. It just rained the day before so the course conditions would’ve been amazing if it didn’t. Fast greens.
Golf carts sucked couldn’t get brake to hold then when it did couldn’t get off very annoying soap suds on course made it hard to find balls sand traps unplayable
Quick 9, lasting impression
I had the opportunity to play Ed Oliver golf course while passing through on a move to Charleston South Carolina. It was a late day round where I only played nine holes and risked possible rain, but don’t regret it at all. The pro shop was extremely friendly, and made my experience a good one right from the get-go. I played the two gentlemen, who were great representatives of the course, and really enjoyed my time with them. The course was in pretty good condition aside from the fairways, being firm, and some of the bunkers having standing water. The greens rolled phenomenally and true. An interesting quirk was the abundance of practically Domesticated foxes throughout the course
Some room for improvement
The course has improved over the last year or so!
the grass in the rough could be a bit better. It can tend to be very patchy in a lot of areas.
Buckers don’t seem to get raked that often, the sand seems to be very hard 90% of the time. Overall a fun course, and good driving range.
