Great course / High cart fees / 5 1/2 hour round!
Great course, love the layout. Everything was great except that they allow walkers which is ridiculous on this particular course as the tee box layout is not suitable for walking the course. $18 cart fee (per person)...$36 per twosome is quite high! Two walkers back up five groups behind them on the back nine and caused my group to obtain the ranger's permission to replay holes 1 through 4 and skip 15 thru 18 due to the backup and impending darkness. Other than that issue, great day of golf!
A good challenge but a bit busy
I liked the layout of the course, it's not super-hard but not easy either. On the "tough, but fair" side. The main problem with it is the # of houses around the course. it really is best to play this course during the week when there isn't so much noise from the residents. There are a LOT of houses right on the course.
Revisited this course after many years..
Used to play alot here when I was younger, this was the first time I had played here in years. The new clubhouse looks great, majority or fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. There were a few holes 2-3 where the grass hasn't quite taken, so you Are forced to hit from a very tight lie. Also the bunkers could have used a raking, were extremely compacted. Greens weren't "fast" per say but rolled very true. Overall I would play again, would be better if Golfnow had a better price that also included a cart. The $18 additional fee felt a bit steep, but it is what it is. Possibly include a range token?
No GPS on carts was the only other drawback. Staff friendliness overall was good, lady at counter could have been a bit more pleasant but you take what you get sometimes. Often when checking in for a golfnow.com deal you get a "Oh, one of them type look" from the person working the desk. Instead, maybe a enthusiastic "have you played here before" or "thanks for choosing us!" Instead of, "you know there's an additional cart fee"
Be Prepared to Suffer
Ok, so decided to play on Monday thru GolfNow at Hobbit's Glen at the walking rate (additional $18 if you want to ride) ... have not walked a course in several years. Very hilly course and the walking was tiring ... so I am feeling to the day after .... we were sandwiched between riding groups but did not hold anyone up. Greens were unusually slow but rolled very nicely. Fairways were excellent. Overall, worth the effort to play this course!
Staff
Staff members are very strict with everything. Felt very unwelcome, but conditions of the course is great.
Extremely Disappointing
For it started with poor customer service. I arrived early as a guest of a member. Without even saying hello the older gentleman working the pro shop did not speak or or even say hello. When I gave him the name of member friend he asked me "Do you have a member #?" I did not and told him I would retrieve from my member friend who was on his way. No friendly smile no nothing. Went to go use the men's room only to find its access coded (yes access coded), you need the code to just use the mens room. When started to play I literally shock to see SO MANY BROWN PATCHES ON THE FAIRWAYS (although #1 is deceiving and manicured). As we played the burnt fairway and uneven grass on the green became annoying to the point I told my member friend we should have played else. THIS PLACE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE PRIVATE. I have played at some of the finest courses on the planet and one of the greatest in Arizona desert, The Phoenician, AND YOU NOT FIND 1 BURNT FAIRWAY or brown patches anywhere on it (and its in the desert). On top of that the greens are lush and manicure, not uneven with patches of grass here and there. Quiet simply had I actually paid for the round I would have left earlier. I played The Woodlands / Diamond Ridge in the Woodlawn and area and the conditions and friendliness of the staff was 100% better and you didn't need an access code to use the men's room.
Challenging Course and Good Conditions
My foursome really enjoyed this course. Every hole had a different look to it. The only complaint was that on this pecticular day we decided to rent carts and we were forced to have to stay on the cart path. With that being said, we walked just as much if we hadn't taken the cart. So if you want to play this course check and see if its cart path only. If it is, you can save yourself $18 and walk the course. Either way you're walking.
Nice even on 1 December
Of course being the end of fall, the fairways are brown. However they are still in great shape. The greens rolled smoothly and had a nice pace to them. This is definitely one of the nicest courses in the area.
November surprise
Took advantage of this $21 walking discount offer and warm November temps to play this nice layout. It's long but relatively open, so bring your favorite big stick to grip and rip. Greens were in nice shape considering it's the end of season. Had to use lift and place rules because the rain the night before left the course wet in spots. Good course and value if you can find a discount.
This golf course
This golf course is well kept and chalenging holes.
Great course surprise golf cart fee
Course is really nice but I had to quit after 4and a half hours and only 14 holes played.
They also don't tell you about the $18.00 cart fee until after you have booked the course.
It makes it not much cheaper than just booking a regular tee time.
Hobbits
Played on 10-20. Course in pretty good shape but rain last week had the traps hard as rocks. Could hardly play out of them. Nice course but new clubhouse under construction makes it a bit sloppy around the check in. Agree it needs better marking in the fairways. I like Hobbits and will definitely return.
$30 on Golf Now
I played this course as it was $30 on golf now and after seeing it's hosted some senior PGA events I figured it had to be a nice track. It was a misty day and I had the whole place to myself. I'd say the greens were stimping around 10, rolled great. There were so many different sets of tees that you pick a distance that fits your game. I walked it and was happy to see that it is a course you can walk. There was only one forced carry, it was on a short par 3. Very fun and I will be back to play it again. I'm not sure about food as their clubhouse is under construction.
Nice Course
Played here after finding a hot deal. Best course for the money I've played this year. I walked the course and was done in about 3.5 hours. There was not a lot of traffic on the front nine and no traffic on the back.
a day at hobbit.
Course in great shape friendly staff and amenities. Pace of play was great , could be better yardage marked. Overall excellent experience.
1st timer
First time playing this course. Very nice condition. Liked the challenging course. Would definitely play again. They are in process of building new club house
Watch it.
It was hot day, but we steel has fun.
Golf now said $45.00. But we end it paid $68.00. Each. Because cart fee 18.00 extra.
Not happy.
We can find Lot a better course for that kind money. Never play again here.
Can you say OVERRATED
This has to be the worst value I have ever encountered. Club House is a trailer (true). Facilities are Porta Potties (true, not an exaggeration). Majority of tee boxes were either hacked, un-cut, sloped or a combination of ALL THREE. Replanted with a new grass that never took. Fairways were OK, to poor. Spotty or non existent grass in many areas. Greens had been aerated two weeks earlier, I was told, oversanded way to much. SLOW & Bumpy. Pro Staff that was arrogant and acted like "I was privileged to be playing their course". ALL of these wonderful things, and they charged $47 (advertised as a 69% discount). I would never recommend this course.
Hobbits is a Mess !
Wow didn't get off until 30 minutes after tee time. The starter was rude and almost got into a fight with the folks in front of us who claimed they had a tee time. Members were lined up also waiting to play and were furious at us and at their own club.
Hobbits is a mess , not worth the deal, unless your a CA member they pay more than Golf Now
