Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 12/2018
Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
Don't play this course
I returned to play this course after years of not being there. I decided to give it a shot, based upon their stated claims of "$1.5 million of renovations". Obviously, these 'renovations' did not involve the golf course. The tee boxes were horrendous, the fairways a weed patch, the greens bumpy, the bunkers a mud hole, and water puddles all over. To top that off, it took us almost 6 hours to play 18 holes, teeing off at about 11:00 a.m. There were no rangers policing the speed of play, and on some holes has 4 groups on it - green/fairway/2 on the tee box. So, if you want to play golf, go elsewhere. There are plenty of decent course for the money within a half hour drive of this monstrosity..
Great track, but very wet conditions
This course is very nicely laid out and good for golfers of all levels. Unfortunately it's located in a lowland area and does not drain well; this summer has been especially wet in Maryland and the course has not dried out well. That being said, the greens were in perfect condition and rolled well. If you play here, just expect some boggy areas and play "free lift, clean, and place" and you will have a good time.
Really cheap, but bad condition.
Fairway was really rough as were all the tee boxes. Not being kept up as it should be
I like this course - just gets crowded & the rough is ROUGH
It's a nice course with a moderately challenging layout, I like it. The fairways and greens are all in really good shape but the rough is ROUGH. By that I mean if you miss a fairway, or green, even by just a little, you get punished. It's most frustrating around the green... it's really hard to get up and down (even from 20 or 30ft away) sometimes because the grass is so long. But, other than that, I really like to play here :)
Good value
Good track, staff were friendly. Second time playing it beat me again. I'll be back
US Open roughs
The course was in great shape. Greens and fairways are above average. However, the roughs are cut high, and creates a pace-of-play issue when players are constantly looking for balls, even a short distance off the fairways, not to mention lost balls in order to avoid holding up players behind. Staff has gone to great lengths to improve course conditions from the past, but the issue with the roughs remains. Too bad.
Pace of play an issue
Played front 9 in little under 1.5 hours; took close to 3 hours to play the back 9... No ranger/marshal at all, which would have helped. There was a single, twosome, & foursome in front of us. Why the single didn't pair up with the twosome still confuses me.
Fun Round
Booked a nice rate to play this course. Fun track. There is water on 17 holes, but its not as intimidating as that may sound since water doesn't come into play all that often. Pace of play was great through first 10 holes when no one was playing in front of me, but really bogged down on the final 8 holes when a few groups apparently started rounds on the back 9. Enjoyable experience and will play again sometime.
Mud Course Special
The course should have been closed...
There was standing water everywhere
The person at the desk complained. About Golf Now and said if I did not have proof of confirmation we would not play without paying them.
Very rude treatment...
First time
The course was payed out very nicely. Unfortunately it was extremely wet due to weather and the rough was extremely high
Looking to get back when it dries out
Good course straightforward. Was extremely wet carts on path. Pace a little slow . Price is good on golf now @36.00
The course has a simple but challenging layout. This was my fifth time playing this course and the grounds have even in great shape, even during the winter months
Different look than before but for the better
I/we hadn't played here in quite a few years and we were pleasantly surprised by the 'look' and overall conditions. The course apparently lost some 200 trees in the severe Derecho storm a few years back (2012?). That opened up the 'look' considerably, but there are still plenty of water hazards to make it 'target golf' off of many tees or approach shots to greens, and that is why I rated its difficulty somewhat challenging. The fairways were on very good shape and the greens were on the bumpy side but should grow in shortly following top dressing to get smoother.
Nice course
This is a nice course, not too long and a good variety of holes. It was cart path only due to recent snow melt, wish I would have walked it. The course is is great shape for this time of year, some standing water but that is understandable. Greens were is great shape and rolled true. Some tee boxes under repair so the par 3s played short from the temp boxes. Very enjoyable round.
