Challenging, great condition.

Course in excellent condition. However some holes are very difficult to play. Terrain makes it difficult to go at some holes forcing a lay up and some sloped so much a good shot rolls out into a bad lie.

Course conditions good -- layout very quirky

Hadn't played this course in 20 years, and from my understanding, has been sold and is under new management. Course conditions were very good -- cart paths, though, need some serious work. The layout is very quirky, (winds through a housing development) -- narrow @ times, and downright unfair @ others. Several fairways are so severely sloped that it is virtually impossible to keep the tee-shot in the fairway -- a lot of "blind" tee-shots, but the directional flags are a big help. One other note: the clubhouse has no working showers -- 2 in the ladies locker room and 3 in the men's locker rooms had "Out of Order" signs -- is it too much to ask, to have working showers in the locker rooms?

Watch the Par 5s

The course plays nicely but there are a few par 5s, and 1 par four, that is plain weird. The one par 5 is in the shape of a "S", with the fairway sloping right to left on the first part of the S, then left to right on the second. For a first time play here- and just started playing 2 month earlier, it just makes it challenging. Shot a 103.

Outstanding course for the price. I will play there again.

It was a great day in September with below 80 degree weather. My wife and I got $11 (normally $30) greens fee from Golfnow.com with the cart. Fairways were in good shape and greens were well matured except the unrepaired fresh divots left by the groups ahead. Tee boxes were well spaced with little damage. The 8th hole, only hole with water hazard, has a hugh tree in the middle of the fairway and don’t space to aim. Overall it was a great day of golf and West Winds Golf Course offers a chance to be out there with no damage to your wallet.

Decent course. Good value!

I was skeptical of West Winds because I got such a great deal on it (thanks to GolfNow), I thought, "well maybe it's a subpar course." Au contraire! Very nice course with some challenging holes, but nothing crazy. I am an average golfer and I didn't get any birdies on this course, but I did manage to shoot a 91, which is not bad for me on unfamiliar terrain. My only dislike here was that the course winds through a housing development and some of the cart paths were really rough. Overall, it was a pretty good place to golf, especially with the awesome GolfNow discount.

Nice walkable course with hills and reachable par-5's.

The course maintenance has improved dramatically over the past two years. Although the course is hilly, it is walkable and those pulling carts can keep up with power carts. The recent addition of target flags in view-obstructed fairways really helps those who are unfamiliar with the sloping fairways and a couple of hidden greens. This is an old-school course with some narrow holes and trouble around some greens. It is a fair challenge.

nice afternoon at West Winds

I took my ten year old out for an end of the Summer round and we were able to finish in 4.5 hours as a twosome. Pace of play was fine, but that is lucky. I have played at West Winds at least yearly since 2000 and the course was in good shape.

Great fairways and greens, cart paths need work.

I played this course in a lite drizzle and enjoyed it thoroughly. The course is interwoven through a community as if the houses were there first which makes it a little long to walk, however I did not find any holes that were too thin or had houses in the way at all so it was well laid out. Several holes were laid out with blind tee shots which caused a lay up a time or two but it made the course challenging and real fun. One last word of mention, the club house staff gave me some advise when explaining the course layout and they were spot on "The front half giveth and the back half taketh away". For the 10$ hot deal I got at 12:10 this course rocked.

Great Value!

First time playing West Winds. I had reservations heading into it, considering I booked it for $28 in the morning, a value in Maryland. I was pleasantly surprised though by the course condition. Fairways were closely mown, rough was penalizing but not killer. Green rolled true, if but a little slow. The difficulty here comes from the slope of the holes. Your hard pressed to find a level shot on this course, which just requires you to play better. Overall a great value for anybody.

Phenomenal value.

I first (and last) played this course more than 15 years ago when there were few trees and the course was very open. Errant shots had little impact, and except for the very hilly terrain there was not much challenge. Wow, has that changed!

The course is heavily tree lined and quite tight. There are many holes which require careful planning, and ideally shaping shots to compensate for the terrain and avoid landing on some nasty side-hill areas. There are a number of doglegs to navigate, and sufficient water to add interest and a bit of potential trouble. While not particularly long (or short, for that matter), it has few "gimme" holes.

I played as a single as it wasn't crowded when I played. It still took me more than 4-1/2 hours due to the threesome in front of me. The course cleared in front of them on the first hole, but they not only caused me to wait on them on every hole (fair enough - a single will be much faster than a threesome), but caused a backup behind me. I wouldn't have minded too much since they were having trouble finding the fairways, but they spent forever on the greens. Every one of the three marked their balls before each shot, including tap-ins. Frankly, my frustration at their pace of play affected my head and my game. It's too bad that marshals never go out midday during the week.

While the course was in pristine condition, I did notice that the day I played there were more recent and unrepaired ball marks on the greens. It had been raining a lot in previous days, and the greens marked very easily, but clearly there had been a lot of people out in the morning who didn't bother to repair the damage they had caused. Maybe it was that annoying threesome ahead of me. I tried to repair several on each hole, but the backup behind me was pressing.

The course is buried in the middle of a development, although the trees keep it from being too intrusive. On some holes, however, you do feel like you are playing in people's back yards. Also, the 16th hole (a par 3) seems to be an orphan plopped into the middle of a neighborhood and disconnected from the rest of the course. It's not a big deal, but it does seem kind of strange to go along a sidewalk on a residential street then turn up a hill and go to the top to a tee box. You play back down to the green, then get back on the cartpath to the bottom of the hill. From there, you continue on the sidewalk until reaching the access back onto the course.

All in all, it really is a delightful and challenging course, albeit a little out of the way. And the greens fees are as low as you can find anywhere - $15 after noon on weekdays - with a cart. As they say on TV, "Go Play"!

Great bang for the buck.

What a nice surprise! Online I noticed there were 5 par 3's. Then I noticed there were 5 par 5's! When I played, it didn't effect my enjoyment at all. Great elevation changes, and the conditions were very good. Do your scoring on the front, because the back becomes a real test. The layout reminds me of an older Country Club style, with an efficient use of acreage. I will definitely go back. Soon, I hope!

Tough course

Well maintained course, greens had a lot of visible foot traffic but it didn't effect play. Elevation changes on holes make you think and a lot of blind shots can get you in trouble of you have never played here. Great course for the price! Will def. challenge you and force you to think and use every club in the bag.

Greens showed wear and tear from alot of traffic

Loved this course because it challenged me to make precision shots off the tee and into the green. Most shots from the fairway was either above or below my feet, what a challenge! Most par fives can be reached in two if you make a good tee shot.
