Pleasant Valley Golf Club
About
Pleasant Valley Golf Club sits just south of Dulles airport, but the expansive layout, which is absent of homes, feels much more secluded. The parkland layout tumbles across a diverse landscape of rolling hills and grassy meadows covered with hardwood forests. There is plenty of diversity throughout the golf course with some holes that are bunker-less contrasting with the links holes that have Scottish-style bunkers. One of the most memorable holes is the par-5 fifth. After an uphill tee shot with a bunker on the right and a waste area on the left the second shot presents multiple choices. To the left you could take a risk with trees and a bunker but you could possibly be rewarded with a better angle for the third shot while the right side option will require a third shot over a large bunker to reach the green.

Beautiful layout! No houses to be seen
Course was in excellent shape and you can see they’ve put in the work.
Nice Challenge
too much crabgrass around the greens makes it tough to get good contact
tee boxes are chewed up and none of them are flat
the lady in the snack bar was rude to me and the nice young man who took my order
the range is closed?! no warm ups?!
lovely challenge...i love the layout of this course, it will take some good ball striking to really go low...if you can get it for the $60ish price, play...if it's a weekend and it's $90, not worth it (or, rather, there are better courses for that money very close)
i will play there again though
Everything about the course was good. The grill was closed so no food or drinks. Wouldn’t even sell us a candy bar or Gatorade. Kinda sucked for that reason.
Treatment of Customers
Before I put my experience today, I think the main thing that people need to know about this course is how easy it is to lose your ball. There is no first cut, second cut, etc. There is the fairway, and then gone. If you're off the fairway, your ball is gone. Just know that. However, this review isn't about the course, it's about my experience with the staff on a range day.
I came out to PVGC today to get some range time in. As I was walking up, I saw that there was a cart staged for the wash bay. As I've always been allowed to take a cart staged for wash to the driving range, I looked inside the wash bay(from outside the wash bay) to see if anybody was working that I could clear it with. As I'm looking in the second bay, I hear somebody yell from behind me, "Hey, what you want? What you looking for?". Based on the tone, I think somebody is clearly having a bad day. I turn around and let this guy know that I'm looking for who is working the wash bay, as I want to take this cart to the driving range. His response, "You have tee time?". I tell him I don't, I'm just here to use the range. "No, you can't use cart. Cart only for tee time". I explain to him that I don't think he's the one that makes that call, as I've always been allowed to take a cart to the range when one is staged for wash, so either you're wrong or everybody else has been wrong. "They are wrong, I am right. Carts only for tee time."
At this point, I can see this guy clearly shouldn't be talking to customers and is just looking to argue so I walk away to let the GM know that I'll be leaving and why. I go inside and ask the guy at the counter who's in charge. He lets me know that he is for now, but that the head pro is outside and would I like to speak with him. I decline, and just let him know what just happened and to pass it on. Complete professional. Took no position on it at all, just said he would pass it on and apologized for "that". I think his exact words were, "Yeah, I'll pass it along. Sorry about that."
So I leave the pro shop and, I kid you not, the guy on the cart is parked and waiting for me and as soon as I walk out the door he shouts from almost the wash bay, "So, am I right? Hey, am I right?" I swear, he's like a six year old. I told him I have no idea because my business in the pro shop wasn't about carts and driving ranges, but about how one member of the staff doesn't know how to speak to customers and shouldn't be talking to the customers. Groundskeeper, cook, sure, but not interacting with customers. He then drives his cart up to the starter and yells, "I didn't do anything! I didn't do sh it!" How the starter is involved in any way whatsoever, I will never know. I looked over at the commotion as I was walking back to my car, but the starter just looked at me normally as I passed, so I have no idea what his involvement could possibly have been. I would have only talked to him if I was asking for a cart from the front, which I'm fairly certain can't be used to go to the driving range. I don't know for sure, that's pure speculation on my part.
Reviews:
Driving range: No idea. Never made it there.
Staff member on golf cart: F. There is no way this clown should be talking to customers about anything.
Pro Shop(Cole?): A+. Complete professional.
Starter: A? I have no idea, really. I'm only adding him bcz the guy on the cart drove up and started yelling to him. How do you review a bystander?
Great Conditions//On-Course Amenities????
Got off the tee 10 minutes early due to cancellations because of the if-y weather. So I'm pretty sure that's why the on-course amenities were lacking: no water buckets to be found anywhere on an extremely humid, damp day, no bev cart until we got to 18. Literally saw her for the first time as we went to our drives in the 18th fairway. Pace of play was outstanding, again, probably due to cancellations, but honestly, their loss. Course was a little soggy but definitely playable without worry. Greens were in great shape, very smooth, good surfaces. Some GUR in untimely places, especially a spectacular drive on the front that was ruined by roped off ground under repair in the fairway. Frustrating, but we're splitting hairs I supple. Will play again but the price feels high for what you're getting. Where are the wet iced towels and club cleaning for $110? If you're loaded with water, a cooler of iced water, and snacks, I suppose this would be a perfect experience. Pace of play, again, outstanding. 18-holes, 3 hours, 10 minutes, which could have been quicker if we didn't get stuck behind two groups, one of which let us through on 9. Hats off to those guys. Excellent play, fair off the tees, bunkers aren't ridiculous, and even though the sand was wet, I think they agitated it because it wasn't as hard-packed as you'd have expected.
Much better than a month ago
Most of the 2nd green is still unusable and some tees and fairways are quite rough, but the greens have finally healed since the April aeration. This is a beautiful layout so please keep the course conditions moving forward.
Wake up People!!!! Good Course!!
All you reviewers downgrading PV should look around and be a little kinder. Its a good solid course with good amenities and a super nice staff. This aint River Creek or LANDSDOWNE and you also are not paying $180 a round. Get the associate membership play 10 rounds of golf and your costs are very reasonable. Tough to beat a $5 hot dog these days. Cart staff is quick and responsive. Its a solid course, support it or it will go the path of goose creek and Westpark!! If you are not having fun, YOU ARENT DOING IT RIGHT!
Enjoyable course
Friendly staff. Good layout and variety of holes. Greens a little rough after recent coring. Should be really good in a few weeks.
Slow and bumpy greens
Ugh. They aerated the greens on April 17th and now -- five entire weeks later! -- you still see the sand-filled holes and the greens are this bumpy and slow? Ridiculous. The middle and back of the 2nd green is unusable. Other greens have dead portions. This is a beautiful course that is not maintained.
