The Gauntlet Golf Club
About
The Gauntlet is situated along the banks of the lake that is the centerpiece of Curtis Memorial Park. When it first opened in 1995, Golf Digest recognized it as one of the "top ten new courses to play in the U.S." This challenging layout will definitely test your shot making abilities. The golf course begins with a tough front nine that has several sharp doglegs over water and tall grasses. There are also a slew of blind shots. The back nine is a bit gentler since there's less water and it is more open and forgiving, but the large, multi-tiered greens can be tricky. The fourth hole is the golf course's signature. Your tee shot will have to carry a marsh to a narrow landing area on this par 5. After that, you'll be faced with a triple-tiered green with the lake to the left and bunkers to the right.

Golf cart people don’t turn in my rangefinder left when back same night and next day. Not a good way to do business
Challenging
Fun and challenging course. Fairways well kept. Greens somewhat dry but in good condition.
All greens are in need of a great deal of work
I'm a member at The Guantlet and it pains me to say that I don't recommend anyone play this course unless/until the superintendent and club management put maximum effort to fix the awful greens. I've played there since 2018 and the greens are overcome by mold, weeds, bare spots, and mud every year. Fairways are good, most bunkers have sand since a major renovation last year, and about half of the tee boxes have decent grass.
Courses with similar climate conditions in the area are in much better shape, e.g. Lee's Hill, Pembleton, and Augustine, but The Gauntlet management company simply won't change the grass type, watering and fertilizing methods, or aeration schedule, despite numerous complaints and suggestions by players for the past 2-3 years.
Today, I paid particular attention to the greens on both nines and I can say that EVERY green had bald spots, mold, and weeds. Putting is a gamble on where the ball will go. Save your money and play somewhere like Lee's Hill or Pendleton, where conditions are so much better and the cost isn't that different.
Unless conditions improve, and I doubt they will, I won't be renewing my membership in the Spring.
The Gauntlet
The pace of play was atrocious. At one point a twosome cut in front of us and went to the next tee box while we were putting. The greens were horrible. Fairways were great but putting was impossible.
New Direction Golf is Toxic
New Direction Golf is bad. Like really bad. They don’t know how to take care of a golf course. They have no agronomy background. Their greens are half dead, on the course they just abandoned, as well as their baby “Gauntlet”.
They are cheap. They don’t want to pay for trained superintendents to actually run the courses. They want someone cheap to try and do everything.
Do not support this sham of a golf management company.
Sorry Didn't Play Here Sooner
Very pleasant surprise on first visit. Pace of play under 4 hrs on a holiday, minimal waiting even as a threesome among fours. All fairways and most greens in great shape. As noted in other reviews, very friendly and helpful staff. Only slightly odd part was the difference in experience between the front and back nines - almost two different courses. But overall, highly recommended and will play again soon.
Challenging Course, poorly priced
Excessively difficult course design, greens are fast, firm, and do not hold shots. Pin placements are laughable. Pro shop doubled as a bar and the bartender handled all tee times/check ins. New management has decided the way to recoup money is to over charge for the course. $45 should be the maximum price for this course.
Needs a little work
The course layout is very nice however it could use a little work on the tee boxes and greens especially for what they are trying to charge for the normal rack rate. Luckily I got a great deal on golf now.
If you get a deal on the tee time it is worth playing
