Best Value in Williamsburg-By far!
I've played this course for years. It was a staple for me for a long time. Like many, I had decided not to play there anymore after its decline.
I was recently talked into returning to see the changes under new management.
I was blown away-probably because my expectations were low. The course is playing great. The bunkers are well kept, the fairways and greens are nice, and the course is playable for all levels.
The Yorktown course has a little bit for everyone. Blind shots, long holes, short holes, doglegs, bunkers, etc....
What I liked most about it is that you aren't hitting driver, 8 iron on every hole. You have to be creative.
The clubhouse has an amazing staff and the food in the grill is better than ever. It isn't just golf course food-although, they have that, too.
I will return........tomorrow, actually.
Course is much better
Williamsburg National has been in decline for a few years. Many of the golfers I talked to said they would never play it again. Jn fact, I was one of them. Heard there was a new owner. I gave it another chance and its miraculous what they have done. Still needs more work, but its very playable. Guys give it another chance.
Thank your for coming out and giving the course another chance. Your feedback and positive comments are greatly appreciated. The maintenance and club staff have been doing a phenomenal job. The Yorktown course is in good shape and getting better every day the Jamestown course re-opens this September with brand new Champion Bermuda Greens. Hope to see you back again soon!
Much Improved
WNGC has been going downhill for several years.
Played there last year and it was in terrible shape.
New owner and new management this year.
ONly one course (Yorktown) open. Much improved over last few years.
Thank you for playing at Williamsburg National and taking the time to post a review. We greatly appreciate your comments and recognition of our efforts. Improvements will continue on both courses and we hope to see you playing with us again soon!
Unbelievable value
Played in 2.5 hours. New carts. Course condition was acceptable. Lots of bunkers. Had a great time with no one in front or behind.
Diamond in the rough
Second time playing this course. Great layout, great staff, great location. Tee boxes need some love, pretty hard. I could see the club is spending some money to redo the greens on the other course so they are heading in a good direction. The clubhouse and staff were awesome. I witnessed some other interaction with some of their members and guest and all left with smiles on their faces. Once they get some of the rough areas around the course up to "par" with the greens and the layout it will be an amazing golf experience.
New fknd for me
First played n Monday and found course in good condition for the area with weather and recent blight. Liked the changing layout but a few holes were not visible and no layout on card. Played better 2nd time Friday after been through once. Liked the course and even though crowed on Friday the pace of play was manageable with normally 3 groups on each hole on about 10 holes.
Enjoyable day
2nd visit and was as pleasurable as the 1st visit.
Thank you for your positive review. The course has been under new ownership and management for close to six months and a lot of work has gone into resurrecting the courses. We have come a long ways and the Yorktown course is very playable, the Jamestown course will re-open with brand new greens in early September. We will steadily continue making improvements on the course and property with the goal of being one of the region's best value with great conditions at an affordable price.
The course was not in the best of condition with lots of brown spots on the fairways and shaggy greens.
TLC needed but overall good course
This course had been neglected in past from previous owners since it is under new management. The management is in the process of fixing the courses. Right now they are fixing the Jamestown course and soon the work will switch to the Yorktown course. Once all the work is completed the courses will be great. Overall greens fast but ok except for damage to the grass. Fairways for most part ok and tee boxes ok. Will be back and play once repairs are done. Looking for a good course to play with little pressure from people behind you this is great place
Williamburg National (Yorktown)
Combination of early season conditions and neglect make for poor course conditions. Grass on greens too long to be able to putt with consistency. Spoke with a few locals who assure me that new ownership is committed to returning the courses to their former glory. I played Jamestown and Yorktown 5 years ago and both were in very good condition.
Pass on these courses, regardless of good price.
Williamsburg national
The staff was very friendly , carts were new and range balls very nce; however once we proceeded to the 1st tee it went downhill quickly. The fairways had no (0) grass. The greens were some of the worst ihave played. But there were some redeeming features: we played the gold tees behind a threesome waited every shot and still played in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Not bad. I really liked the visual from the tee areas, a first timer might experience some fear of carrying some of the fairway bunkers. From my perspective of looking down the fairway then looking backwards, i saw some great deasign features. Last but not least the greens were in need of work . Perhaps a mowing and rolling might be a way to start. The greens speed were inconsistant at best but the design of the green and the access to that surface is wonderful. We had a good time and i will reserve final judgement after i consider playing the course when it has greened up. The course has some really testing holes.
Coming back
After extreme neglect from the previous owner, the course is coming back. They still have a way to go, but the new owner(s) are working hard to get this course back to a pristine facility.
Greens
Played Yorktown course, great layout, greens are still terrible.
Greens have to get better to recommend
Courses have a ton of potential. What separates good golf courses are their greens. These had bare spots and were bumpy unlike other courses in the area. Currently under new management and their plan is to upgrade the greens. Unfortunately played front nine of Yorktown which was very fair and wide open. Only a few holes required a carry off the tee. Back nine played Jamestown which was tight, difficult par 3s and local knowledge of dogleg distances.
wrong time of year to play here
Course was under winter repair but looked like it would be nice in summer
Not as advertised
1st, I purchased on golfnow, supposed to be 18 holes on Yorktown course, they made me play the back 9 of Jamestown course twice, so not happy about that. A lot of construction going on, so if peaceful is what you're looking for, this golf course is not for you. Fairways in good shape. THE GREENS ARE HORRIFIC! Seriously, I've never seen worse greens anywhere. Divots and holes everywhere. Overall I thought this was a waste of money.
Early spring golf
We played the back nine on the two courses. It was early spring so the fairways we dormant grass. The greens were not bad on the Yorktown course but far from perfect on the Jamestown course slow with a lot of bumpy area. Apparently the greens on the Jamestown had been recently re-seeded and had not been cut for a number of days.
The clubhouse facilities are very good.
Improving
Everything is great except for the greens. Greens are improving but not there yet. Confident the greens will be fully recovered in the near future.
Course currently rough
One plus is you can play fast... but course is in very poor condition but understand new management working hard to bring back. The course layout is my favorite in Williamsburg... previous owner let it go .., a shame
recommend the booking service and friendly staff at course.--great experience
Thank you for your feedback and your thorough review, greatly appreciated. Glad to see you had a great time and we look forward to seeing you again!
